Spent ammunitions shells or similar war trophies are strictly prohibited from being mailed from any APOFPO Military Post Office ZIP Code This change is necessary to prevent false positive hits during inspections by airport airline and US Custom Service personnel This prohibition also applies to replicas of these items even when modified to be inert For example shell casingbullet belt buckles hand grenade paperweights pistols and handguns mounted on plaques etc Rationale Replica or expended items even when modified to be inert still show up as dangerous illegal and hazardous materials when x-rayed and still present the potential to shut down disrupt or jeopardize mail passing through military civilian and international mail systems Please be aware that all mail requiring flight will be pass through x-ray in Frankfurt and any prohibited items will be returned to sender with possible law enforcement Customs involvement Please contact your local Customs or Post Office for further details
