Last week was a very busy week for Year 6. Not only did they sit
their SATs but they took off to London on the Friday to visit the
world-famous art gallery, The Tate Modern! This trip was to kick
start their new topic called Gallery Rebels which will begin after
half term. During their time at the gallery, the pupils had the
opportunity to see all manner of weird and wonderful pieces of
modern art. Many displays caused some in depth discussions
about what art actually is as some were rather unusual (human
hair wrapped around car bumpers?!) Year 6 were a credit to the
school throughout the trip and behaved excellently. We are all
really looking forward to our next topic and all the creativity
which will be flowing in the classrooms and around the school!
More
from the
Tate!!
Some pupils were fortunate enough to
bump into some Chelsea Pensioners!
They had a chat with them and were in
complete awe!!
A fantastic day was had
by all! Bring on the
Gallery Rebels!!!
Save Our Bees!!!
There will be a ‘buzz’ around school when we return after half
term as it’s Science Week and our theme is Bees. We will be
collaborating with the Infants School so there will be lots of opportunities for the
children to move between the two sites to share their learning and teach others!
We will kick start the week with a visit from a local
bee-keeper who will bring some honey for the children to
taste. The children will research bees by answering the
questions: Why are bees important? What would happen if
there were no bees? How can we help to protect bees?
Year 3s will create a fact file of information about bees to share with the Year 2
children; Years 4-6 will research information about bees and create a board game to
teach younger children about bees. They will then play their board game with the
children at the Infants School.
The Infants School have planted lavender to attract bees so throughout the week we
will conduct a bee survey and submit the information to The Great British Bee Count
2018.
Finally, on the last day there will be a joint mufti day. The theme will be ‘bees’ and
children are asked to wear all black, all yellow or yellow and black stripes. We would
also kindly ask for a donation for mufti day which will be sent to Friends of the Earth
to help protect our bees.
We are looking forward to an exciting week and encouraging all our pupils to ‘Bee
the best they can Bee!

On Monday 21st May some of our Year 4 pupils enjoyed a Science and Sports Day during
which they carried out many investigations and enjoyed a game of Rounders! As part of their
investigations the pupils were asking themselves questions such as: How do balloons float
above a hairdryer? Where does the wax go when a candle burns? They also challenged
themselves to see who could build the tallest tower using only spaghetti and marshmallows!!
For their game of Rounders, the Y4s had
two teams: The Fantastics, captained by Ollie and the Ladybirds, captained by Grace. It was a
close game but the Fantastics beat the Ladybirds 14-10!!!
Everyone had a super day!
