COVID-19 restrictions fast-tracked The State Government has confirmed that coronavirus restrictions will be further eased from 1 June 2020.

As part of Step 2 of the South Australian roadmap for easing COVID-19 restrictions, large dining venues will be able to have 80 patrons at a time, and many other businesses – including gyms and beauty parlours – can reopen.

Despite the announcement, businesses still need to ensure they are abiding by the rules of a maximum of 20 people per room, one person per 4sq/m and 1.5m social distancing. Only venues with four separate areas are allowed 80 customers.

The Hon Steven Marshall MP, Premier of SA, brought forward the changes with the aim of carrying the state back to a sense of normality and restoring jobs which have been lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the changes, additional businesses will be able to open. This includes gyms, cinemas, theatres, galleries, museums, beauty parlours, tattooists and driver training schools.

Pubs can serve alcohol without a meal from Monday, but patrons must be seated. The number of people allowed at private gatherings will also double from 10 to 20.

All businesses reopening from 1 June 2020, are required to create a COVID-Safe Plan. For more information, visit www.covid-19.sa.gov.au/recovery#plan. Please Note: This is pending formal approval from the Commissioner of Police.

Shop local The Town of Walkerville is supporting businesses as best as we can as our community continues to deal with the effects of COVID-19. We are promoting businesses which are still trading, or reopening their doors during this time, to our community under new shop local campaign Still working in Walkerville.

Please email us if would like to be included: [email protected].

Do you put it in the green bin? About $90,000 per year would be saved in the Town of Walkerville if we all put compostable materials in the green bin. This is one of the facts the East Waste 2019 Recycling Audit report has found specific to Walkerville (see below). The full report will be presented at the 15 June 2020 Council meeting.

Living in the Town of Walkerville The Council moved towards a new vision for the Township as it endorsed the 2020-2024 strategic plan this month.

A liveable, cohesive, safe, active and sustainable township are the key words that will drive and shape the district over the next four years. The 2020-2024 Living in the Town of Walkerville: a strategic community plan gives Council a framework for decisions about infrastructure investment, assets, community and corporate services. Future projects and budgets will be assessed on their capacity to deliver the targets in the plan, as well as for how they align to the aspirations of the seven key pillars.

Hard copies are now available from the Civic and Community Centre.

The Town of Walkerville is consulting on its draft Public Art Strategy and we want to know what art means to you.

Digital Walkerville Did you know that we are continuing to share our programs and events with you online?

As our in-person events were cancelled because of COVID-19 and we are still unsure when these services will be able to resume – we are continuing to support the people and businesses which had programs scheduled at the Council by turning these into virtual sessions. We believe this is an important way to keep offering these programs to our residents who were planning on attending. If you have not had a chance to view any, please visit the Town of Walkerville Facebook page or our Digital Walkerville page on Council website.

Nutrition with Nourish Adelaide

Rebecca Greco is the director of Nourish Adelaide and is an accredited practising dietitian. Every Thursday, she is sharing videos, informative posts and recipes with the Town of Walkerville community to help our residents keep healthy during this winter season through good food and nutrition.

Rest assured that each post is backed by credible, evidence based science and this is a professional

obligation as Rebecca is a member of the Dietitian’s Association of Australia. She also has clinical experience within SA Health at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Royal Darwin Hospital.

Meditation and yoga

We have taken the age old practice of yoga online to help you calm the mind, and ease away stress and tension to improve both physical and mental wellbeing. Every Tuesday evening, let us help you release the strain from the day and relax the mind for the rest of the week. Our meditation and yoga gurus take you through a variety of exercises and poses from the comfort of your own home – some of our videos even include yoga fun for the whole family!

Capital Works Update Solar Panel installation at the Civic and Community Centre

Works are ongoing on the installation of a 50kW solar panel system as part of the 2019/2020 capital works program.

Installation is expected to be completed early next week.

The roundabout at Dutton Terrace and Victoria Avenue will be upgraded

The existing roundabout at the intersection of Dutton Terrace and Victoria Avenue, Medindie, will have the crossing points upgraded and made DDA compliant. There has been some delays in work starting and now expected to be completed in mid-June

Herbert Street Reconstruction

Reconstruction of Herbert Street, Medindie, continues. Work involves reconstruction of all footpaths, all driveways and the complete road, to match the recently reconstructed work in The Avenue. Traffic controls, including road closure for through traffic, are in place.

Temporary 2-hour parking controls are now incorporated in Hawkers Road to allow for school drop-off and pick-up during the works. Work will start at 7am and finish by 5pm each day. Works are expected to be completed mid-June 2020. Reused bluestone is being used on the northern kerb, with new bluestone on the southern side.

Street sweeping helps keep the Township clean Additional autumn leaf collections have commenced within the township.

The street sweeper will be focusing on streets where there is significant fallen organic leaf matter. Officers are inspecting streets and adding to the list as required, this list changes week to week subject to the amount of leaf litter present.

This not only keeps our streets looking clean and tidy, it also helps protect our environment by removing leaf litter and debris before they enter the stormwater system. It also reduces the chance of flooding in the event of heavy rain and importantly clean streets ensuring our roads are safe for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

Our sweeper has to stop to spread materials that have been placed into piles. While we appreciate the efforts of residents to pile leaf litter, our street sweepers cannot pick up these piles. Leaving the leaf litter spread in the gutter helps keep our sweepers moving.

Our street sweeping programs are seasonally adjusted to effectively manage the level of risk in streets where issues are present generally relating to street tree litter.

Details about our street sweeping program* are available below.

*The above dates are indicative only. Please note that your actual street sweep date will be within 1 or 2 days of the prescribed date.

While we make every effort to keep our streets clean year-round, you can help out by doing the following:

• Avoid sweeping leaves or clippings onto the road;

• Do not park caravans, trailers or boats on the road for extended periods.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Please be advised that we are continuing to update our website with COVID-19 updates, including returning services and programs.
