President’s MessageIn the immortal words of the “King,” Viva Las Vegas!!!!
Welcome everyone to the CPPC’s 2013 Fall Convention, and the 24/7 world of Las Vegas. We are so happy that you are here with us to participate in what will surely be a fantastic time together. Not only do you have the opportunity to experi-ence a city like no other, but the team who created this event have done just an outstanding job preparing a most educa-tional and fun time for us all….so, again….welcome!
Please join with me in thanking our hosts for this event…Kathy Kendall of Wheaton World Wide Moving / Bekins Van Lines; Terry Jiminez of Universal Furniture Restoration; and Jim McCue of UNIRISC, Inc.-Paramus, NJ. They specifically developed a schedule of events that includes something for everyone….much like all the different hotel themes in town! And, who knows….while a session title may not appear to be something of value to you, that may just be an “illusion,” so don’t automatically rule it out. You might be surprised to find valuable information that you didn’t know was there….think magic show! Let’s see…on Monday morning we have two sessions with guest speakers, and both are interesting and informative. Ken Gallagher of Specialized Repair Co has used real life experiences as his source for his presentation, and Bob Shofstall of Graebel Van Lines will be speaking on safety…specifically on how safety scores affect business.
On Monday afternoon there are four breakouts, and a session on packing/restoration. The first two breakout sessions scheduled are: a Military Forum with moderator Dori Bledsoe of Eagle Adjusting, and an Appraisal Panel moderated by Brenda Murray of At Your Service Appraisals. The second two sessions are: a panel discussing Local/State Authority Claims & Prevention with Kimmie Loeffler of Armstrong Relocation as moderator; and the second is Building Business - How to Increase Your Customer Base, with moderator Bob Dickson of Furniture Medic by Bluegrass Furniture Restora-tion, Inc.
Following the break, Kent Weathersby is moderating the Artwork Packing and Restoration session which will pro-vide you with valuable knowledge regarding when a 3rd party is needed; restorations; and what products are avail-able to help prevent claims….this will be a “must see!”
To end our Monday together we will gather for our “Roar-ing 20’s/Gangster” reception….I’ve got my flapper dress and bootleg whiskey flask, and I am ready to learn that new dance…the Lindy Hop….are you???
Tuesday morning there are two sessions both designed to entertain as well as inform! The first is a take-off of that popular game show from the 1970’s, “Hollywood Squares,” moderated by Mitch Treider of Complete Furniture and In-teriors and Guy Endsley of Lone Star Restorations. If you remember this show, the center square personality provided lots of laughs, and I understand from my “inside sources” that we will not be let down! The second session, moder-ated by Lina Hart of Suddath Van Lines and her panel, will be a skit demonstrating all that can happen between the time an assignment is made to the settlement of the claim. Come prepared to have a good time!!!
Regards,Debi Williams ❖

What a great turnout for this year’s event. I know that Vegas is a draw, but I hope that the schedule of educa-tional sessions and the opportunity to network with current and future customers is also a reason for such a strong attendance. We have exceeded our attendance number from over the last 5 years of record retention on this event.
We have been on such a roller coaster ride the last several years and it appeared we were on a solid incline of late; but hopefully the most recent Government shut down will not have a long term impact on the economic growth.
As an association, we have to continue to forge relationships that strengthen our value in our industry. We have to build on our ability to provide valuable educational content and reliable prevention content to our members. Amongst our membership we have the experience and the knowledge to collectively accomplish such a mission.
This convention is an element of our continued growth. We must take advantage of our time together to build the value of our association through our educational sessions and through forged networked relationships. The value of these relationships and in-person time together is priceless when used properly to strengthen our over-all value to each other and collectively together as an association. I urge you all to use your time together pro-ductively. The extent of the value gained from attendance is directly tied to your involvement and interaction with others. So reach out to past working partnership and extend another hand to a new opportunity. Most im-portantly make sure you extend that hand to the numerous first time attendees. Hopefully they will be return-ing to the next event as well. I further encourage each of you to invite one new person to the next event. It might be a current member that hasn’t been to an event in years or a totally new associate you have recently started a working relationship with. These connections are valuable to our association and our continued growth.
Please enjoy your time here and let our CPPC Board or myself know of any assistance we can give you during the event. We are interested in your feedback on this event and most any other aspect of our association. Take a few moments to share your comments with the survey that will be sent to you in the weeks following our event. Your feedback is important to us.
Mark your calendars now for the 2014 events. We are back in St. Louis in April of 2014 at the historic Union Sta-tion Hotel and in Alexandria, VA in October. This is the first time back in the DC area in quite some time. We are at a beautiful hotel, the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center, for the event; and hope to plan an optional outing into DC proper if possible. Plan early and take some extra time to see some of the incredible museums, monuments and memorials of our capital. So many of them are simply incredible to see, if you have not been to the area before. I especially recommend the changing of the guards at the “Unknown Soldier” at Arlington Cementary; Korean War Memorial and any of the numerous Smithsonian Museums. We will start providing links after the first of the year for early planning.
Thank you for attending this year’s event. ❖
