This is the speed at which work-piece travels against the tool’s Cutting edge.

Formula to find out this is “ V=DN”Where

V – Cutting Speed in “mm/min”.D - Diameter of the work-piece in “mm”.N - Rotation of the spindle in “rpm”.rpm – Rotations per minute.

Feed(f)

Feed is the distance traveled by the tool cutting edge into the work-piece during one rotation of the work-piece in the longitudinal direction( Parallel to the lathe axis).

It is in “mm/revolution”

Depth of Cut(d)

Depth of Cut is the amount of penetration of the tool tip into the Work-piece in the transverse( Perpendicular to the lathe axis) direction.

It is in “ mm”

“d” can be more for rough turning,( 2 to 4mm) “d” should be very less for the finish turning

( .25 to 1mm)
