Our Workshop Goals

Participants will increase skills in the use and integration of technology in classroom instruction.Participants will create a plan for maximizing the use of limited technology in their classrooms.

Three strategies for integrating limited

technology:1.Use it to support differentiated

instruction for specific groups of learners

2.Incorporate it as a center or station for individuals or partners

3.Use it as a teaching station for whole group instruction

Group Instruction StrategyBreak class into small homogeneous groups to maximize technology to user ratioTechnology is used by one group with or without teacher guidance based on their needs and learning goalsOther groups have chances throughout the year or within the lesson or unitStudents have an opportunity to learn from peers and engage with others

Stations/Centers StrategyCenters that support the lesson objectives include the use of technology as well as other activities and complement what's happening at other stations around the roomSchedules and/or timers keep students movingStations should not be used only for reward, drill-and-kill, etc.Station activities can be rotated within a one day lesson or over a series of lessons

Teacher Station StrategyEngage in higher-level thinking activities (instead of a presentation to students, have a presentation that elicits from them)Allow students to take turns interacting with the teacher station to give them practice with basic computer skillsAllow students to be the teacherGet the students involved in the creation of content… group writing, dynamic presentations, students choose actions, etc.

Discuss the best way(s) to:

1. Schedule computer use for equitable access;

2. Select appropriate configurations of individuals or groups;

3. Select the appropriate technology tool;

4. Pre- and post-assess student skills;

5. Provide modeling, guided practice, and student directions;

6. Use management strategies to maximize time-on-task, engagement and success;

7. Differentiate technology-integrated activities to provide appropriate levels of support in order to foster both achievement and independence achievement and independence
