Welcome aboard! Nashville is a great and growing city, and as we have grown, so too have the services of the Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority. Today, we have a transit system that is connected to all major corridors and demand for services has never been higher.
In late March, the MTA launched a brand new downtown circulator called the Music City Circuit. This free and convenient service is a great way to get around downtown Nashville and the Gulch. Whether you live or work downtown or you’re visiting for business or pleasure, the Music City Circuit will get you where you need to go quickly and easily. Dining, shopping, entertainment are at your fi ngertips along the Music City Circuit, or simply use it to attend downtown meetings or travel between sports venues, the convention center, downtown hotels and other attractions.
The Music City Circuit operates Monday–Saturday from early morning until late evening. Colorful green and blue hybrid buses and vans travel on two frequent downtown routes: The Blue Circuit travels north/south to the Bicentennial Mall and the Green Circuit runs east/west into the Gulch, a LEED certifi ed community. Bus stops are designated with matching green and blue bus stop signs complete with a map and frequency chart. Both routes depart frequently from the Music City Star’s Riverfront train station.
Another new and important transit service the MTA operates is our fi rst Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line on our city’s busiest corridor, Gallatin Road. All new hybrid 60-foot BRT vehicles provide frequent service that makes fewer stops than the local buses. Beginning this spring, enhanced BRT customer amenities are being added, including the installation of new bus shelters. Green light signal extenders have been installed on the buses so that traffi c lights remain green longer as the BRT buses approach an intersection. Plus, real-time schedule information will soon be available at each BRT station and at the Music City Central bus bays.
Finally, one of the very best jewels of our transit system is Music City Central, our downtown transit station. MCC opened in October 2008 and creates a unique central hub for bus activity within our downtown business district with its cosmopolitan and comfortable atmosphere, ticket and information center, customer waiting rooms, retail businesses, and outdoor art on the plaza.
I hope you will continue to be one of the thousands of people who rely on our transit services to get you to your destinations.
