Welcome Back

Welcome BackJanuary 20121Essential Questions:Where might I find strategies to support all learners?

What are we considering for Cycle 5?LeadershipFocus

How might data inform our direction for Cycle 5?

Pick Up Sticks2 players, the rest are observersWatch strategyWatch how your group worksThink about the processHow is Pick Up Sticks similar to moving change forward in your schools?

3Pick Up Sticks RulesHold sticks upright & drop

Keep Black or White Stick as a tool (or select a color to use a a tool)

Player 1 picks up sticks 1 at a time until they move a stick

Player 2 continues in the same manner

4PointsThe person with the most sticks wins.

5

Facilitating change in schools is like Pick-up Sticks because

6Observers:When your group was presented with the pick up sticks, what did they do first?

One game was given to your table, how did your group get organized?

Process of the game what did you notice about your teammates strategies?

What did you do when you were finished your game?

7How might these points also reflect our AISI projects in our schools?IsolateAddress first those issues that stand alone.

Dealing with interlocking problems is hard.

8Focus

If two players work on two sticks at the same time, both lose. Work on only one issue at a time if possible.9Be Deliberate

Change, like pick up sticks, requires patience and concentration.Move slowly, plan carefully, and coach along the way.10Watch for InterlocksSometimes sticks rest on each other in an interlocked loop: A on B, B on C and C on A.Removing one disturbs the others. When you have no choice, do the best you can.

11Watch the WeatherPick-Up Sticks is more fun on a calm day.Winds make it difficult.Change efforts are much easier when the outside world is stable and supportive.Dont wait for turbulent times.
