Lenten Bible Study

"...for us men and for our salvation." Just what does that mean, "Salvation"? Join us this Spring for an inspiring video series and discussion to find out!

Scripture scholar and theologian Michael Patrick Barber will offer a thorough, deeply Catholic and deeply biblical answer through the Lectio: Salvation video series available on FORMED. Based on the best-selling book, Salvation: What Every Catholic Should Know, this 10-part series is inspiring, engaging, and accessible to anyone. Group discussion will follow each showing. Marybeth Schombert will facilitate.

The series runs for 10 weeks. All sessions are held in the Parish Center. Tuesday sessions begin March 10 at 10:30 am, and Wednesday sessions begin March 11 at 6:30 pm.

No preregistration required. All are welcome.

Every Friday of Lent

Prayer Shawl

10:00 am – 12:00 noon The Prayer Shawl Ministry Group has knitted and crocheted prayer shawls for those in emotional or physical need. Please stop by the office to pick one up for yourself or someone else who would appreciate having one. If you like to knit or crochet or would like to learn, join us every Friday during Lent, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon in the St. Mary room of the Parish Center.

Lenten Soup Lunch

1:00 pm The Church of St. Mary is offering our “Lenten Soup Lunch” after the 12:15 Mass each Friday of Lent. You are invited to join us in the Parish Center for a bowl of soup and an opportunity to meet and greet fellow parishioners who share this Lenten journey with you. Donations to Catholic Relief Service’s “Rice Bowl” will be accepted during each lunch.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

7:00 pm Join us each Friday of Lent at 7:00 pm for Stations of the Cross and Benediction. It is a powerful way to enter into the Lord’s Passion and Death – His journey to Calvary and His dying on the Cross for our sins. This Lenten season consider participating in this truly meaningful Lenten devotion as a family.

Come check out the collection and find something to feed your soul this Lent!

St. Mary would like to start a card gaming group for card players to gather, play cards and enjoy some fellowship. If you like to play Bridge, Canasta, Pinochle, or Gin Rummy, we would love to have you help us start this new group. We need 3-4 devoted players to commit to joining us one day a week to get the dealing and scoring started. If you are interested, call Marybeth in the Parish Office at 541-342-1139.

We are Called

Join our faith community – and more than 14,000 Catholic communities across the United States – in a life-changing Lenten journey with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Rice Bowl. Pick up your family’s CRS Rice Bowl from the church vestibules. During the 40 days of Lent, we will reflect on the challenge of global hunger and how it affects our human family.

Trinh’s family farm in Vietnam has been affected by climate change. What would you do if your source of nutrition was threatened? How can we support those whose livelihoods are vulnerable to weather? Visit crsricebowl.org for more information.

Pastoral Council Corner

The St. Mary Pastoral Council has been reading from the documents from the Vatican II Council and has chosen to share excerpts from Chapter IV of Lumen Gentium, which is about the laity, those of us who are not ordained or called to the religious life. The Council picked out some particular points for us to pray about:

We, the laity, share in the mission of the Church to save all souls by directing our daily affairs according to God’s will.

The laity acts like leaven, making the world holy from within, by fulfilling our regular duties with love.

Christ gives us his spirit and pushes us forward to continual conversion & apostolate with those around us every day.

This is a beautiful chapter and can be downloaded for free from the Vatican website. The link is at the St. Mary website on the Educational resources page. We also have copies of the Vatican II documents in the St. Mary Library.

† II domingo De Cuaresma †

Mt 17, 1-9

Help for Those with Hearing Loss

St. Mary Parish has purchased three Listen Display Receivers which are connected to the church’s sound system. By plugging in a set of earphones, ear buds or head phones, a parishioner will get assistance to hear what is going on in the Mass. The devices will be available to be checked out for use before each Mass and would need to be returned at the conclusion of Mass. Anyone wishing to check out a receiver must sign up ahead of time in the Parish Office.

Due to the cost of each receiver, only a limited number are available so they will be handed out at each Mass on a first come first serve basis. Anyone wishing to contribute to the purchase of more receivers should contact Marybeth in the Parish Office at 541-342-1139.
