Allow us, on behalf of the 2018 WTTC Organising Team to bid you a warm welcome to Halmstad, Sweden. For a number of years now we have been working hard to prepare the very best conditions possible for the ITTF family of players, coaches, officials and delegates.

We remain humble and service minded to solve any problems that may arise during your stay in the World Championships city of Halmstad, located on the beautiful west coast of Sweden. The WTTC 2018 bid also involves the whole Region of Halland – very much a traditional hotbed for our sport, fostering several world champions and with a number of elite clubs operating on a daily basis.

As we are putting the final touches on the Halmstad Arena, the very centre piece in our bid, we would like to share, with this official welcome bulletin, some useful information that may help in your preparation.

l OFFICIAL WELCOME – TRANSPORT Please note that our official airport is Gothenburg Landvetter. Upon arrival please look for volunteer’s welcome signs. You will be guided to the bus stop and transport to Halmstad Arena for accreditation. Travel time from Gothenburg / Landvetter is approx. 1 hour 45 minutes’ maximum.

Should your team opt to arrive in Copenhagen we have instructed our volunteers to guide you to the train service provided by Oresundståg – leaving from the arrival – terminal 1.Tickets can easily be booked at ticketing machines upon arrival or pre–booked at https://www.oresundstag.se/en/. Although you can pre-reserve seats in advance, the train line for Gothenburg is usually busy and trains are leaving every hour going north. Should you somehow miss your connec-tion (late arrival ) just use your pre-booked ticket on the next train. Border controls takes place when crossing over the bridge to Sweden – keep your passport ready.

Total travel time CPH Airport to Halmstad is 1 hour, 48 minutes. Shuttle service from Halmstad Rail-way station to the Halmstad Arena is short of five minutes and will operate constantly during the arrival dates.

Any arrivals to Halmstad Airport will be serviced with mini busses and cars.

l TRANSPORT: HOTELS TO THE HALMSTAD ARENAThe WTTC 2018 organisation is operating with a group of twelve official hotels. The travel distance from the hotels to the venue door to door varies from five minutes to 32 minutes measured travel time. Buses will leave every 30 minutes during peak hours – otherwise every hour and on schedule. Traffic controllers will determine additional needs for emergency transport. Buses will leave from two locations indicated on the map.

l ACCREDITATION Accreditation services for teams and officials will open 25 April (evening) at the Halmstad Arena. Official busses will stop right at the accreditation centre and we expect a smooth process, that is if payment has been received and no changes occur in your delegation.

Please note that cash handling is restricted by the city of Halmstad. We kindly ask all teams to re-duce the need to pay cash to an absolute minimum. Thank You in Advance.

l HOTELS AND MEAL SERVICE Please pay attention to the fact that the meals services (breakfast – lunch and dinner ) is the respon-sibilities of each official hotel.

Lunch is booked for 11:30-14:30 and Dinner 19:00-23:00. In addition to this there will be a very lim-ited light meal service at the arena, ONLY available for teams playing twice a day and with +30 min travel time to the venue. This special station will open at lunchtime and remain open only to cover for teams unable to return to their hotel in time. All hotels are instructed to offer the best of healthy international cuisine. By the way – please enjoy the Swedish breakfasts…usually a steady, solid top feature in our country.

l ARENA CONFIGURATIONS All three venues according to the map (A, B, C) are inside the Halmstad Arena compound. Specta-tors seating are free and we do expect some overall movement inside the Venue. We kindly ask the delegations to follow signs and instructions and to be aware of security arrangements put in place by the city of Halmstad.


Two specific training venues are in play. The VIP Warm Up area only has six tables and training here is restricted to teams scheduled in the Venue A. Each team will have their own training table as-signed whenever possible which becomes available 90 minutes prior to the start of the match and remains open 90 minutes after the start of the match.

The main training venue is located 150 meters from the Venue B and C and features 36 tables.

l TRAINING SCHEDULE The Halmstad Arena will open for training on Wednesday April 26 at 09:00. Full training schedule to be provided by the ITTF Competition Management.

l WIFI SERVICES Provided by contractors and available in all venues.

l CLIMATE It has been a cold and snowy winter in the south of Sweden. However, we are now approaching the best time of the year in this part of the world; Early Spring! Please prepare for anything between 12 to 18° C and a nice mix of sun – cloud and possible rain. We are keeping our fingers crossed.

l CURRENCY Important to note that all prices in Sweden is listed in SEK. Exchange rate is approx. 10,30 SEK for 1 Euro. Like many other European countries – we are indeed moving towards a non cash society. Plenty of outfits are favoring only credit cards.

l OPENING CEREMONY The official opening ceremony will take place on Sunday April 29 at 16:15 in Venue A/Halmstad Are-na. The program includes a tribute to Swedish Table Tennis Heroes as well artistic performances.AGM delegates and AGM officials are invited to a friendly gathering/reception with some drinks and snacks, 15:30, VIP-entrance. Welcome!
