Father Solanus Casey Beatification Set for November 18 at Ford Field in Detroit

The Capuchin Franciscan Order of St. Joseph in Detroit has announced that the date for the Father Solanus Casey beatification ceremony will be Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Ford Field in Detroit. This follows the historic announcement by Pope Francis on May 4 that Father Solanus Casey will be elevated to Blessed in the Roman Catholic Church. Details on the Fr. Solanus Casey beatification ceremony, including ceremony time, will be released in the coming weeks and available at solanuscasey.org/beatification and aod.org.

Ticket information will be made available by August 15. Ford Field will be configured to accommodate

approximately 60,000 guests for the ceremony.

Missionary Co-Op in July at

St. Augustine & Holy Family Parishes

Fr. Anthony Mutio is from the Catholic Diocese of Kitui, Kenya. He has recently arrived from Kenya to assist the Catholic Diocese of Peoria, IL and travel around the US doing mission appeals in the summer for the Kitui Diocese. Fr. Anthony will be visiting St. Augustine the weekend of July 16th and visiting Holy Family on the weekend of July 23rd.

Fr. Anthony was ordained in 2003. The Kitui Diocese is in a sub Saharan plain, where one of the greatest challenges is drought and famine. Access to clean water and ample rain are a constant challenge for everyone there. Most people rely on subsistence farming to feed their families. This is difficult in times of drought. The trickledown effect of this influences everything including education, since schools close without clean water and fees for tuition are redirected to buy food since the crops fail. The burden that many feel during these times of need leave them feeling hopeless, if not for their faith. Your support during this mission appeal is vital for the hope it provides.

God Bless, Fr. Anthony Mutio

“It’s time! Say ‘Yes’ to God’s plan for married love” is the theme of National Natural Family Planning (NFP) Awareness Week 2017, held this July 23-29.

This annual campaign of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops celebrates God’s design for married love and the gift of life and raises awareness of NFP methods. Gifts to the Catholic Services Appeal allow the archdiocesan Office for Natural Family Planning to offer classes in and presentations about NFP methods.

To kickoff NFP Awareness Week, the Office for Natural Family Planning is hosting a family picnic with the Couple to Couple League at Milverton Park in Troy from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 23. RSVP to (313) 451-4637.

Operation Olive Branch will begin calling on our parishioners that we have not seen in a while to invite them back to church.

Please join us at St. Augustine on Saturday, July 15th. Mass at 9:00 am, Visiting 10:00 -11:30 am, Dismiss 12 noon

Mail Call

We who are evangelized are drawn to the corporal works of mercy.

That every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood? That approximately 36,000 units of red blood cells are needed every day in the U.S.? That 1 donation has the potential to save as many as 3 lives? That by giving blood,

you are achieving the corporal work of “Comforting the sick.” Yes it is!!! By donating blood you are reaching out to those who are sick. Your donations could save up to three lives and bring healing to others. If you are part of the 38 percent of the U.S. population that is eligible to donate, please consider doing so because currently, of the 38 percent, only 10 percent give each year. Holy Family will be offering the opportunity to act in the corporal work of visiting the sick by hosting a blood drive on August 13th. To assist in making this more convenient, you can schedule an appointment by visiting redcrossblood.org and enter Sponsor code: holyfamilymemphis or by calling Linda Mastej at 810-305-6333.
