  • WELCOME FROM THE LEADERSHIP TEAM We are hitting a new stride at Running to Places! Can we tell you about it? On any journey, be it walk on a sunny day, an intense race, a hike, or (insert journey of your choice here), there is often a satisfying point when you have settled on a pace that feels good and you are able to take the scenery in a little. What you are doing feels familiar enough that you find yourself able to enjoy new aspects of the experiences a bit more. And in this state, if the opportunity to take a new path presents itself, you feel a certain excitement at trying something new and have the boldness to do so. This production in our still-relatively-new youth theatre company represents such a point in our journey. How wonderful that it happened just in time to really enjoy this new opportunity of holding our first show at the Hangar Theatre! We are so very glad that you have joined us for this leg of the trip, and hope you enjoy yourselves as much as we have. The theatre is such a lovely treasure for our community, and we are pleased to see the middle school company members of R2P get the chance to “be the first” to represent us here. And how exciting to realize that we get to stay on this part of our journey for a bit, giving a mix of very talented middle and high school students the chance to perform for you here in Spring Showcase 2011 (April 15 – 17). We hope to see you then as well! None of this is to say we are so comfortable that we don’t still put constant energy and diligence into our work. After all, one’s journey comes to an abrupt ending if one stops moving forward! Here, too, we have found a nice pace. We have established how we “traditionally” do our work, and those traditions were formed because they serve a positive purpose. But we also continually examine how this work might be done in new and refreshing ways. As we move through this season at Running to Places, you will see familiar faces, including not only our performers and leadership team but our talented designers as well. As a collective group, we have settled into a comfortable stride with each other, and this allows us to move into our work in new and exciting ways. As plans for the remainder of the rest of the R2P season are in various stages, we can already promise you will enjoy a strong mix of “tradition” with “newness” at each of the remaining shows of our season. We hope you’ll stay with us on the journey and see for yourself! Best, Gail, Joey, and Todd

Running to Places Theatre Company (R2P) is a nonprofit theatre company for teens that rehearses and performs all over the Tompkins County area. We provide youth with opportunities to participate in all aspects of theatre and the process allows them to create great art, develop important life skills, and make deep connections with teens from every school district in the county. Participation is open to all those in grades 6-12 or the home school equivalent. Rather than impose a strict fee structure for participation, we depend on donations, fundraising, ticket sales, business sponsorships, and grants. R2P was started in 2007 to meet the demand for more theatre opportunities for the talented youth in this area, reduce barriers to participation in the arts, and to build community across the county. After spending its inaugural season under the nonprofit umbrella of Social Ventures, Running to Places Theatre Company was incorporated as an independent 501(c)3 in September 2008. The founding members of R2P are Gail Belokur, Ross Mizrahi, Todd Peterson, and Joey Steinhagen.
