Empower Guatemala! Oak Ridge UMC has been taking teams to Guatemala for a decade, empowering local churches to minister to rural communities with clean air and water for the impoverished. This ministry connects local believers with the unchurched, provides financial benefits which help families stay together rather than seeking migrant work, helps provide security for women who would otherwise have to spend hours a week searching for wood in the jungle, and provides greater opportunity for children to go to school rather than staying home sick or having to help gather wood. The health, financial and environmental benefits are numerous. How Can You Help? Support a family or donate needed items. Our teams in October will serve 300 Guatemalan families at a cost of $300 each. Each family we serve receives a health-wise and efficient wood burning stove that allows them to continue their traditional cooking methods while preventing smoke inhalation and burns. We provide a concrete floor in the kitchen as a base for the stove and to help prevent diseases. They also receive a water filter that eliminates 99.9% of bacteria and parasites from otherwise unclean water that leads to malnutrition. Families also receive deworming pills to cleanse their bodies from parasites, as well as toothbrushes, clothing, and other donated items. Donate today $300 Sponsor a Family (Stove, Water Filter, and Medicine) $150 Provide a Stove $90 Provide a Concrete for the Kitchen $50 Provide a Water Filter $10 Provide Deworming Medicine Please make checks payable to Oak Ridge UMC and memo “Guatemala stove ministry” or you may donate online.
