International Foundation

• Established in 1954– Fostering the education and exchange of

information for trustees, administrators and other fund professionals

• Found education niche with passage of the Labor-Management Relations Act of 1947 (Taft-Hartley Act)

CEBS• Passage of ERISA in 1974 influenced

the CEBS program. • CEBS began in 1976• Partnered with the Wharton School and

later with Dalhousie University• Formalized curriculum• First CEBS designations awarded in 1980• CPE Requirement

Society

• Established in the early 1980s• Non-profit educational association• Provide specialized professional development

and networking opportunities• Controlled corporation of the International

Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans

Today

• Both the International Foundation and the International Society educate and serve Canada and the United States

• Working together to serve the entire benefits community
