We start our Resort Tax suspects by having people submit tips using our anonymous tip hotline. This tip line can be located on our website by the FOR RENT icon or they are
able to call and leave a tip on the tip line
When a tipster clicks on the Resort Tax Evaders icon on our website it will take them to this screen. This is
where they can enter in the information they are wanting to submit.
Once a tipster submits a tip we will receive an email showing us the information that was submitted.
Other ways to receive tipsWe also use sources such as;

We use craigslist to search for vacation
rentals in the Manatee County area.

We search the web for vacation rentals in the Manatee County area and check to see if they
already have an account with us.
Field Deputies (Park Audits)
We have field deputies that go out and do park audits to renew park decals. When they arrive on the property they ask to speak to the owner and
if the person states that they are a tenant for short term they report it back to us.
With the information we receive from the tips we go into our Excise program and search to confirm if they
have ANY kind of account.

Creating a Suspect Account
We add or reactivate an account in the resort tax system and show it as a Suspect Account using the information we collected from the tip submission.
Once we have created a suspect account we go out to do a field check to confirm if there is a short
term renter in the unit.
We use this form to fill in
information we acquire while we are out in the field. We try to get as
much information as we can to help
out our investigation.
Once we have completed our field check, we like to go back and attach it to the account. In Excise we are able to
attach documents to certain accounts. This allows us to go back and see what information was acquired on the field
checks.
When we have discovered that there is a short term renter in the property we start by sending out our suspect letters.

If we are unable to get a hold of the owner, or they refuse to pay the tax, there are two
more letters we send out. .
The second one is just another reminder letter stating we are aware they DIDDID rent their property out due to our field checks.
The third letter is a letter of assessment. We would then do our best to evaluate what we
think the property would be rented for in that area. The responsibility is on the owner
to prove us wrong.
