Dear Prospective Motherland Camp Participant,
Welcome to 2012 “Happy Trail in Korea!” It is our pleasure and honor to invite you to our program
to learn and experience Korean culture and explore your heritage, thanks to on-going supports and
sponsorship by Mapo-gu District.
“Happy Trail in Korea” is designed for overseas adoptees from Europe and the United States to
learn about their motherland. I sincerely hope that 2012 Happy Trail will bring you nothing but
priceless learning, enriched experience, and invaluable memories. We are sure that participants
will have ample opportunities during the camp to have many different experiences through various
programs. You will get the first taste of Korean language, martial art, cooking and traditional
etiquettes and customs. You will also have a wonderful opportunity to experience the life of a
typical Korean family with Home-stay. You will also be able to review your adoption file to help
you to understand your adoption background. Although not all, depending on your adoption history,
it may be possible for foster mother meetings and/or birthfamily unions.
I entrust that the program is prepared to help you to make the most of your time and heart for the
camp.
Holt post adoption services have worked tirelessly to prepare the best program for the adoptees,
and Holt Korea will continue to put our efforts to be a true advocate for the best of your interest. I
would sincerely like to ask of you and overseas adoptees’ community for your continuous support,
participation, and most of all, your hearts for the vision of Holt, and various other programs that
have for the adoptees.
Enjoy 2012 Happy Trail, and may this journey be a blissful one!
Sincerely,

“2012 HAPPY TRAIL IN KOREA”
I. History of Happy Trail in Korea: Holt Motherland Camp
As getting older, many overseas adoptees seek to learn more about their motherland and heritage.
The first Holt Motherland Camp was held in 1992 we hope to offer an opportunity for young
overseas adoptees to visit Korea, learning its culture, customs, and history.
For the past 21 years, with the increasing interest and participation of overseas Korean adoptees
from around the world, Holt Motherland Camp, Happy Trail, has successfully matured and grown to
provide better programs for the adoptees to experience and see their motherland beyond their
scope. It is our sincere hope that this program will continue to grow for many more years to come
in effort to reach adult overseas adoptees who wish to expend their understanding of Korea, their
motherland.
