Welcome to 4th GradeBack to School Night!

Mrs. Hutchinson’s Class

Carpool Hours

• Morning Carpool is from 7:55 – 8:10.

• If you carpool with a middle school student, you can drop off at 7:45 and your 4th grader will stay in the cafeteria until 8:00.

• Students should be in the classroom and ready to go at 8:15.

• School ends and carpool starts at 3:25.

• 9:30-9:45 Read Aloud/Snack/Break

• 9:45-10:25 Language Arts

• 10:25-10:40 Recess

• 10:40-11:45 Social Studies/Science

• 11:45-12:25 Lunch/Recess

• 12:25-1:10 DEAR/Flex time

• 1:10-1:55 Specials

• 1:55-3:05 Math

• 3:05-3:25 Planner/Study Hall

• 3:25 Dismissal

What to Expect for Homework

• Math – Monday through Friday (except on test days)

• Spelling, Grammar, Reading – Monday through Thursday, we will try to complete work in class

• Unfinished class work (Monday – Friday)

Long-Term Assignments

• Month-to-Month Me

Each month students will have a packet of 4 pages that they will need to color and complete. They will have about 2 weeks to complete it each month.

• Book Reports

Students will complete book reports. Directions will be given in plenty of time for them to read the book and demonstrate their understanding. This will start in September.

• Content Area Projects

Various Social Studies/Science projects throughout the year. Often time done in class, but may require some support from home.

Homework Policy

• Assignments are expected to be completed and turned in on time.

• If assignments are late, but turned in later that day or the next day, students will receive 20% off, if it is turned in on the second day students will receive 50% off on the score earned.

• After the third day, they will receive a zero, but should still complete the assignment.

• Infinite Campus will be notated with “*M” for missing assignments.

Parents and Homework…

• Please let your child be responsible for his/her homework, as they grow and develop more independence.

• Growth in education is like a three-legged stool and each of us has a part: Student, Parent, Teacher

• Be an active part, but let them do their part!

Dress Code

• Please refer to the Dress Code Policy and consequences for clarification. • 1st Violation – Warning

• 2nd Violation – Loss of Next Dress of Choice Day

• 3rd Violation – Loss of all Dress of Choice Days

• 4th Violation – In School Suspension, Loss of All Dress of Choice Days and Special Days

• “Warning” time frame for 4th Grade ends August 22nd.

• It will be enforced and a copy violations will be sent home with your student for a signature.

• When in doubt, please check with the office.

Elementary Reading Testing DaysAugust 25th , April 13th

8:15-11:00

• Students will arrive at normal time in the morning.

• Students will be brought back up to the front of the building at 11:00 for carpool.

• All children need to be picked up by 11:15.

• Students should bring a snack and a silent reading book.

• Students will be taking a Benchmark Test from our Wonders curriculum.

• Students can dress in dress of choice clothing.

Communication

• Please check Friday Folders weekly. There will not be a signature page, but you should expect them each week. Please go over the work with your child and return them on Monday.

• Classroom newsletters will be sent home via email each month. They can also be viewed on our classroom website.

• I will use email and our classroom website to communicate classroom needs or information. I may also use this to keep in touch about your child, when needed. This is the quickest and most efficient way to communicate. Feel free to email me as well. I will get back with you as soon as I can. Please make sure your email address stays updated.

How to Find Information

• 4. Type in Hutchinson in the search bar, enter

• 4th grade newsletter – monthly update

• Homework and Events Calendar (updated regularly, but also check child’s planner)

• Resources-documents, links to websites, guidelines, etc.

• Wish List – Items that would be helpful for the classroom

SNACKS and TREATS

Appropriate morning snacks are fruit, veggies, yogurt, cheese, crackers, bread, health bars, healthy cereals.

Students should not bring the following for morning snacks: chips, cookies, sugary treats, popcorn (too messy), Ramen Noodles.

Birthday treats are always welcome! It is a district policy that they should be store bought so ingredients are listed and accessible.

We do have life-threatening nut/peanut allergies, so no snacks with obvious nut/peanuts.

Your Homework!

• Please take home the information packet. You will see the ABC’s of 4th Grade, a questionnaire to help me get to know your child, a “Welcome to 4th Grade” questionnaire, some homework tips, and a reminder about reading testing day.

• Please fill out the questionnaires (blue sheet and purple sheet) and return them with your child or in their Friday Folder by Monday, August 18th.
