Please consider donating items to the 8C team if you can. Students can bring donations to their Alab teacher and we will share and distribute them throughout our 5 classrooms and provide supplies to those students who need assistance.

Academic Lab
Before lunch … about 30 minutes long. Goals
Provide students with academic support within the school day
Time for homework help and test prep Dedicated time to reading and math
8C AcLab Schedule: Monday: Silent Sustained Reading (have a book at all
times!) Tuesday: Homework Extension Time
(Assessment Make-Ups & Tutoring by sign up) Thursday: Homework Extension Time
(Assessment Make-Ups & Tutoring by sign up) Friday: Exploratory Extension Time / Math Support
It is expected that students are actively working on the academic task of that day.
Academic Lab My AcLab will be especially geared towards math
enrichment.
Homework Extension T / TH Days and Fridays will be time for students to revisit the new math material, get help on basics as needed, study for tests, and work on math homework while able to get my help.
It will give students extra time, help, and instruction to enable them to be more successful in their math class.
3rd Hour Snack on 8C
Since lunch doesn’t start until 12:38 in 8th grade, the 8C teachers have decided to allow students to eat a HEALTHY snack during the first 15 minutes of 3rd hour.
This is true for all 3rd hour classes on 8CAll food and drink MUST be finished and
trash thrown out within the ‘bell work’ period
Please make sure it is healthy
Math Help for Parents
• Special informational meeting for parents on how you can help your student in math (linear algebra) throughout the year!
• Tuesday August 5th at 6pm in MPR(Not intended for parents of students taking High School Algebra or Honors Geometry)
Potential Expenses for 8th Grade Students
Yearbook• The cost of a standard yearbook is $30 if purchased
before March 6th. • Baby Ad is available for $25. This would allow you to
submit a baby or childhood picture of your child and a personalized message to be included in the yearbook. The deadline to order a Baby Ad is January 12th. (Baby Ads are only available to 8th grade students.)
8th Grade Promotion Dance• The dance will be on May 15th from 7:00 - 9:30 PM.• The fee for this dance ranges from $5 to $10.
Big Surf• This field trip will be on May 20th.• The fee is $20 and includes lunch. The fee is due
May 11th
Disneyland for choir and band students• The trip is February 5th – 7th.• Ms. Figueroa and Mrs. Werner will provide
information about the requirements for the trip and the fees.
Mini Town• This is a leadership training camp held in Prescott
February 20th – 22nd.• All students are welcome to apply to this incredible
opportunity. • Applications available November 1• The fee is $185 and is due January 30th.
Living History Trip• Mr. Furman will be providing information about trip.• The trip will take place around Feb or March (tba)• The fee will be approximately $300 and will be due
in February two weeks prior to the trip.
Sports• Fall sports: cross country, boys soccer, and
volleyball• Winter sports: girls soccer, wrestling, boys
basketball, girls softball, and spiritline.• Spring sports: boys baseball, girls basketball,
track & field.• Fees range from $100 to $150 depending on the
sport and are due when your student makes the team.
Parent VUE
Parent VUE is a Kyrene School District program that gives families online access to a student’s schedule, assignments, grades and more.
This is the same program families used last year.
The District will be sending home more information about passwords and access soon.
To access Parent VUE, go to www.kyrene.org– click on the PARENT tab– click on the link ParentVUE
1. Go to www.kyrene.org
2. Click on “Parent Center”
3. Log into service. 1. You will need your username and password.
2. If you do not have a username and password, email [email protected]
4. Click on each class to check grades and assignments.
5. We will NOT send out progress reports because you can check your child’s progress anytime.
Check Grades Online Anytime!
AGENDAs• All students will be given an
agenda that needs to be used to write down all assignments every day.
• We do not need to collect donations as in past years.
• Until agendas arrive, students need to have a planner, piece of paper, or something to write down their homework!

Bahama bucks fundraiser:
• Take a flyer• Student council is throwing a shaved ice fundraiser at bahama
bucks on rural and warner. Please stop by and support aprende!!• Thursday Aug. 14th 5-9pm
Invitation
PTSO will be sponsoring a Meet and Greet breakfast for all of 8th grade on Thursday August 14th from 7:55 - 8:25am.
Please come back and join us for a continental breakfast and a chance to socialize with other 8th grade parents!
Tax Credit
• Information regarding tax credit donations was sent out to the school’s mailing list during the summer.
• If you are interested in making a tax credit donation please contact the front office.
