WELCOME TO

AT ARCHBISHOP TEMPLE SCHOOL

The Science Department have put together this booklet to introduce you to Science

at ATS and give you an idea of what fun and exciting Science you will be learning

when you join us!

It is not compulsory to complete all, or any, of this booklet- but this is a great

opportunity for you to try some new things and engage with some Science

activities.

When you join us, you will study lots of fantastic Science topics. At secondary

school, Science topics are sorted into three different areas: Biology, Chemistry and

Physics. The next few pages are designed to introduce you to these three different

fields within Science, with some fun activities for you to have a go at!

You can also have a look here to revise the Science topics that you learnt at primary school: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/z2pfb9q

You can read more about the ATS Science Department and curriculum here:

BIOLOGY

You will have already explored some Biology topics at primary school, like how we

identify living things, classifying living organisms, how things grow, animal & plant

reproduction, parts of the human body and evolution.

Have a go at some of these fun Biology activities:

CHEMISTRY

You will have already studied

some Chemistry topics, such as

identifying solids/liquids/gases, separating

mixtures (filtering, evaporating, dissolving),

observing different chemical reactions and

carrying out ‘fair tests’.

Have a go at some of these great Chemistry activities:

What Chemistry topics have you already learnt at primary school?

What Chemistry topics are you excited to learn at ATS?

Did you know…that you can clean coins using everyday items in your

home?

Some examples include:

Lemon juice

Baking soda

Ketchup

Vinegar

Coca cola

Can you design and carry out an experiment to investigate which item works best to clean coins?

What would you need to consider to make this a ‘fair test’?

forces, magnets, electricity & electrical components,

and light.
