1883 Hermann Thorens founded the company in St. Croix, Switzerland, as a music box manufacturer

1889 Thorens produces the first cylinder phonograph

1906 Introduction on the market of the first horn gramophone for lateral-cut discs

1928 Release of the first electric motor drive

1940 Start of building an own professional record-cutting machine

1957 The TD 124 establishes worldwide quality standards of record players

1966 Thorens moved production of the TD 150 record player to Germany. The TD 150 ii followed in 1969

1972 Development of the TD 160 which writes history. In 1975, the 500.000th record player is built.

1976 The TD 126 replaces the TD 125 ii and catapults Thorens into the era of electronically powered belt transmissions.

1983 The company celebrates its centennial, offering absolute fans the luxurious “Prestige” record player

1889 The TD 2001: high-end turntable with solid wood casing and complex reinforcements is released

1998 Thorens launches the “ambiance” with an external power pack and solid cherry wood frame.

2000 - now

Thorens is once again run from Switzerland – The new CEO Heinz Rohrer

brings to the market: the 2010 awarded TD 309 and the TD 350, TD 550, etc.

2008: Thorens‘ 125th Anniversary (oldest consumer electronics manufacturer of the world)

Product Overview TD 550 - based on the TD 350; equipped with a suspended chassis and belt drive as well as more exclusive materials, making the TD 550 an award-winning high-end record player

- complete phono preamplifier including RIAA equalization, which was to complement the outstanding playback performance of our turntables

- TEP 302 also features a 15-Hz subsonic filter in order to protect the woofers from dangerous excursions when a warped record is played
