About Me: Mr. Jovel
I was born and raised in Fremont. After high school, I earned my B.A. in Community Studies at UC Santa Cruz. Go Banana Slugs! After two years of hard work, I received my teaching credential at San José State University. My student teaching assignment was completed in Antigua, Guatemala and Brier Elementary. Afterwards, I worked as an Intervention teacher at Grimmer for two years.
I am looking forward to a successful third year here at Patterson Elementary!
Student Expectations
Come to class and be on time.
Complete assignments on time.

•Math homework and remembering book will be used. They are responsible for returning the book each day it is used.
•Don’t be alarmed if we are not going in order in the book.
Homework Homework is posted each morning. Students are responsible for copying assignments into their planners.
Assignments and notices are put into binders. Students have been instructed to make sure they have everything before they leave.
Homework is due the next day unless otherwise directed.
Points will be given for completeness and students are highly encourage to ask questions and participate in class.
Students will only be recording reading or online minutes.
HW Help
Ms. Unger and I will be opening our classrooms for students who are not able to complete the online assignments.
Times will take place 30 minutes before and after school on Tuesday and/or Thursday.
Folders will be sent out each Thursday and are to be returned Friday. Parents are required to sign folders before they are returned. Folders may include:
•Important forms•Previous weeks assignments •Math homework answer guide (for parents only)

If your child has allergies, you (the parent or guardian) MUST attend as a chaperone.

Supplies and donations are greatly appreciated
Please replenish your child’s pencil supply as the year continues.
When sending money into school, place in an envelope with your child’s name.
Anything helps!! Books, tissue boxes, gift cards, paper, etc!

Rubrics will be used in addition to letter grades. As a team, all fifth grade teachers at Patterson Elementary are weighing their grade books with the following scales:50%- Test
30%- Classwork, Projects, and Participation
20%- Homework
Grading
Class Dojo
We will be using class dojo in our classroom this year. Students are able to track their points and parents will be able to message me.
If no points are awarded, don’t worry! They are doing fine!

Students should always have a chapter book at their desk for reading if they finish their work early
Science and P.E.- Grade will be provided to me by prep teachers
Adults on campus between 8:15-3:00 is not permitted without checking into the office.
