Welcome to Back to School

Night!

What is Back to School Night?•Back to school night will introduce you to:

▫your student's classroom▫teacher's expectations for you and your

student▫allows you to see where your child will be

spending their time throughout the school year.

▫It is not; however, a time for a parent conference.

Star Assessments

These are monthly assessments that monitor the grade level your child is working at in Reading.

GE: We monitor this score for reading groups and intervention. By the end of the year, your child is expected to grow 1.0 from their first test.

IRL: We use this score to identify your child’s AR shark level

ZPD: Zone of Proximal Development. This means they can be successful reading books that are within this range. This can be with teacher support.

ARYour child is placed into a Shark Level. They will need to read their books several times before they are allowed to take a quiz.

Please encourage your child to read their books and ask them questions.

Please understand that your child might not get to test when they are ready due to the lack of technology. We will do our best to ensure your child tests in a timely manner.

This may change within the next few weeks. As soon as we know, you will be notified.

AR (AR Sticker Charts)

Grading

Our school is a Standards Based Report Card school. We do not grade the traditional way (A, B, C, D, or F). We give 4, 3, 2, 1.

Grading (Conferencing)Johnny took a test. He got 1 problem wrong. Teacher will conference with Johnny. While conferencing, Teacher asked Johnny to take a second look at the missed problem. If Johnny was able to correct the mistake without any other prompting from the teacher, he will receive a “2” for the standard that the problem applies to.
