Welcome!

1. Please find a seat. You may not be able to sit in your child’s chair as we do share seats for the AM and PM sessions.

2. I have left index cards and some pens on each table. If you have any questions throughout the night, please write down your questions and your contact information. There are many of us in the room tonight, so this will make it as easy as possible to answer all of your questions as I may not be able to speak with everyone one-on-one tonight. Do not worry, we will be meeting next month during our October conferences.

A Little About Me

• My name is Marisa Proietto• I was born and raised in New Jersey • I have two older brothers, a nephew, and two Yorkies• I graduated with a BA in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Special

Education• I taught Kindergarten from 2009-2011 in West Melbourne, Florida • I also taught Kindergarten in Green Brook during the 2012-2013 school year• In my spare time...

• Blocks center – what can you build? • Reading center – choose a book and read quietly or with a friend• Play center – pretend play, dress-up, cooking, etc.• Art center – paint, color, glue, etc. • Puzzle center – fine motor skills• Play-doh center• ABC center – letter recognition• Math center – number recognition, shapes, patterns, etc.

Monthly Behavior Calendar*Please check this every day. It will let you know how his/her day was at school. It is on the inside of the take-home

folder. The code at the bottom informs you of the color and behavior that occurred in class. It is important that you initial each day so that we know you checked it. If the behavior is something that I feel needs parental contact, I will give you a phone call to speak with you. If there are two or more consistent days on yellow or red, I will give you a call.

Home/School Projects

Throughout the year, the children will have the opportunity to complete a few projects at home with you. Please take this opportunity to work with your child in completing these special projects. Use it as time to spend together to build the home-school connection. Please guide and help your child, but try to let them write/draw etc. It’s their time to use their imaginations and be creative. Don’t forget…have fun!!!

Take-Home Folders

• Take-home folders are used for parent-teacher communication. It is very important that you check your child’s folder on a daily basis. They include: • Monthly behavior calendar – please check and

initial daily!• Any important notices • Any completed classwork • Homework• Notes

Homework will be sent home on Monday. It does not have to be returned until Friday, however, if your child completes it early, they may return it to school. It is very important that you help your child with homework. Do not do it for them, but help them. Homework reinforces the skills we are learning in the classroom.

Important Reminders • Check your child’s take-home folder on a daily basis. Please send the folder back to school

every day. This is our main way to communicate with each other.

• If your child is going home a different way than usual, please send in a written note to me and I will send it down to the office in the mornings. Do not tell the bus driver.

• Continue to send in one small snack everyday. The children are given 15 minutes for snack.

• If you would like your child to celebrate his/her birthday, please remember that school policy is no baked goods. A healthy snack (fruit, goldfish, carrots, pretzels, etc.) is acceptable.

• There will be no weekly newsletter sent home. Our class website will list all of our skills and activities for the week. Please do your best to check the website weekly so you know what we are learning in our classroom! I update the website every Monday. I will show you how to access it.
