“I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” — John 10:10

As we open our eyes and emerge from any avoidance we have regarding our feelings about money, we illumine a candle and ask Divine Presence to be with us on this journey, giving

us fresh perspectives that can shift any “unease” that holds us back from a courageous vision about our money paths. We have compassion for ourselves and each other because

the systems of money we live in are not easy to navigate.

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS PRELUDE “Slane” Jonathan Reuss

ILLUMINATING THE SHADOWS

Leader: To be part of the early Christian movement… . … could result in the kind of generosity that gives life

not only to the mission, but to the giver.

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that thou art; Thou my best thought, by day or by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

We light this flame to affirm that where there is light, there is understanding;

where there is understanding, there is compassion;

where there is compassion, there is possibility;

where there is possibility; there is transformation.

Holy and Living God, transform our fears into awe-inspired wonder.

Open us to this light, and to the rich possibilities that it brings us.

WE ARE GRATEFUL for the ministry of Karen Lull this morning as our organist while Katie Franklin Ledsinger is on vacation. WE ARE GLAD YOU ARE HERE! Children are always welcome in worship; should you need it, childcare is offered during worship. Claremont United Methodist Church is a welcoming and reconciling congregation, affirming its ministry with the whole family of God regardless of age, race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, economic situation, or marital status. Claremont United Methodist Church believes its diversity is a blessing through which persons are strengthened to love and serve. INCLUSIVE LANGUAGE IN WORSHIP: Because language has the power to shape our thinking about one another, Claremont United Methodist Church uses inclusive language for Bible readings from the New Revised Standard Version. Some historical texts that are widely known and loved are left unaltered. This, we believe, in no way diminishes our commitment to inclusive expression. We invite persons to change the words of hymns deemed to be exclusive so that the hymns might have meaning for all.

OUR PRAYERS PLEASE keep the church office updated on your loved ones.

NEW TO THE PRAYER LIST: David Blackburn (Ed Kania’s friend); Loved Ones of Rosemary Jespersen (Sharyn Landers’ friends); David Wilhelm (Bill and Mary Beck’s grandson); Howie Yeager; World Council of Churches Countries of the Week: Canada, United States of America. LIFE GOES ON – A Group Discussing Grief and Loss – Meets the Third Sunday

Part of the human experience of living and being in relationship with others, is facing death, dealing with loss, and working our way through grief that, at times, threatens to overwhelm us. We suffer these feelings at different points in our lives: as caregivers for loved ones facing chronic illness or end of life, divorce, our own illness, and death of a loved one. We need the comfort and support of our faith community. Life Goes On responds to this need in a safe and confidential setting. Life Goes On continues on Sunday, November 17, at 11:00 a.m. in the Round Building. The group meets on the third Sunday of each month. If you would like to be part of Life Goes On, or if you’d like more information, please contact Rev. Martha Morales: (909) 624- 9021, or [email protected]. Meanwhile, mark your calendars for November 17 and December 15. All are welcome.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

Annual Thanksgiving Boxes

For many years, Claremont UMC has generously provided Thanksgiving dinners for families in need in our community. We have done this by filling boxes with all of the ingredients to make a Thanksgiving dinner along with a $25.00 gift card to Stater Bros. so the family could buy their own turkey. These Thanksgiving boxes have been distributed to families through the Beta Center, which is one of the food banks operated by the Inland Valley Hope Partners.

Each year, we have exceeded our goal. Last year, our goal was 100 boxes, and because of your generosity and that of the families of the Preschool at Claremont UMC, we were able to provide 124 families with a Thanksgiving dinner.

This year we are once again going with a goal of 100 boxes! You may pick up your box and shopping list in the Narthex on Sunday, November 3.

Return boxes to the Narthex anytime, but no later than Sunday, November 17.

Each box will have two 3x5” cards attached. One card will be the grocery list of what is needed for each box. The other card will have printed on it the information needed to identify who donated the box and if a gift card is included.

You can choose to provide a box of groceries, and/or a gift card. Some families go together in filling a box. Some prefer to buy a gift card only.

Our own Preschool at Claremont United Methodist Church participates in a Scrip program and has $25 Stater Bros. gift cards available. Gift cards purchased through the Preschool’s Scrip program benefits the Preschool.

If you would like to buy a gift card, please make a check out to CUMC for $25, and on the memo line, write “Thanksgiving Gift Card.”

This is a perfect time to invite your children and/or grandchildren to go shopping with you. It is a great way to teach children about giving.

If you are unable to shop or would just prefer not to shop, we will do it for you. The cost to fill a box is approximately $25.00. Just let us know on the day you sign up. Please make a check payable to CUMC for $25, and on the memo line, write “Thanksgiving Box.”

If you would like to do both a box and a gift card, please make the check for $50.00 and note that on the memo line. God bless you and thank you for your continued support!
