Attendance/Punctuality

Government target is 95% ours is 100%.

The impact of erratic attendance is massive(see signs in school).

90% or below is the warning figure for Persistent absence-parents can be fined or prosecuted by Education Social Welfare Officer.

We have fined more parents than any other school on the Wirral 87 last year.

Holidays and appointments outside school hours if possible- we will use fixed penalty notices for unauthorised breaks.

Lates. 1hour detention on Friday if students are late without good reason. Offenders often dropped off by parents. Again we can fine for this- legally your responsibility to get children in on time. Students should be through the doors by 8.35 to make form time.

Special Educational Needs (SEND).

• We offer a graduated approach to meeting the needs of all students at Coop Academy Bebington.

• Students on the SEN Register have a Pupil Profile summarising needs in order to inform teacher planning and ensure Quality First Teaching.

• We offer small group literacy and numeracy interventions and use the STAR Reader Programme to support students in improving their reading.

• For pupils who require emotional support we run the ‘hub’ where students can meet with a learning mentor for a nurture or study session.

• The extensive Pastoral Team offer support around friendships.

• We have a counselling service in school 2 days a week so students can talk about a wide variety of Social Emotional and Mental Health Issues.

• Beyond what is on offer in school – we work with outside agencies and parents to ensure we identify needs and offer the right support to students and families. These agencies include:

School Educational Psychology Service

Health Services in School – School Nurse

Arrangements for transition.

Due to Covid-19 things have changed drastically, restrictions mean we can’t have students on site before September. This in effect means no transition day, no extended transition and no summer camp. Rest assured that we have spoken extensively to primary teams about your child and have all the relevant background information.

To compensate for the lack of any face to face meetings, we plan to contact parents to discuss your child, there may be an opportunity to have a quick chat with them during this call to allay any fears and answer any questions. It is essential that you have filled out the student personal information booklet and returned this to school (it was sent in the post previously)

In addition, we have lots of materials on the website- virtual tour, meet the form tutor video, information podcast from the Head-teacher. Please refer to this for information updates.

The role of the Progress Leader

As Progress Leader for Year 7, I work closely with the Pastoral Leader (Miss Sleeth) to ensure students cope with the transition from primary to secondary school.

I will look predominately at the academic side of school life –

• Ensuring students are placed onto the correct Progress Target Pathway

• Organising early support in English and Maths, if needed.

• Identifying students who are struggling with the academic transition from primary school

• Ensuring students are challenged and the Year 6 into Year 7 dip is minimised

SUPPORT

Page 21: Welcome to Co-op Academy Bebington...their Progress Target Pathway enables us to celebrate excellent progress and identify students who may need a bit more support. Many students will

Tracking Students' Progress

Students are given a Progress Target Pathway in most subjects

based on their KS2 SATs scores as well as our knowledge of

their abilities. Comparing students’ current progress against

their Progress Target Pathway enables us to celebrate excellent

progress and identify students who may need a bit more

support.

Many students will exceed their target grades!

Students’ targets will be shared in the Second Term once they

have had time to settle in and teachers get to know them.

Page 22: Welcome to Co-op Academy Bebington...their Progress Target Pathway enables us to celebrate excellent progress and identify students who may need a bit more support. Many students will

What support do we offer?

• English and Maths intervention: small group work sessions to improve

students’ confidence

• Form Tutoring Mentoring: students who are not quite meeting their targets in

English, Maths, Science and/or Spanish will have the opportunity to get back

on track with the help of their Form Tutor

• Progress Leader Mentoring: students who are not quite meeting their targets

can be mentored by their Progress Leader

• Homework and catch-up clubs are offered in many subject areas and run at

break times or after school

• The LRC (Learning Resource Centre) is open for all students before school,

at break times and after school until 4:30pm each evening

Journey to SuccessKey Assessments

• Students will complete some baseline tests in English and Maths within their first few weeks of school

• Students will have key assessments in their lessons throughout the year and some end of year exams in May/June 2020.

• Gaps in learning can be identified from key assessments and we can put support in place

• Homework/revision is provided to help students prepare for assessments

• We use Accelerate Reader to identify students' reading ages and ensure they are reading regularly to maintain high standards of literacy

• The outcome of assessment is communicated with home through reports sent via Parent Mail three times per academic year. End of Year exam results will also be shared via Parent Mail

How can you help to support your child, our students?

• Support them to be equipped for school each day: pen (plus a spare), pencil, ruler and a

planner that is used and signed weekly by home (it’s a great tool to communicate with your

child’s Form Tutor). Students are welcome to have a bottle of water in lesson

• Keeping an eye on Class Charts: encouraging homework completion, praising positive

points and challenging negative behaviour points, being aware of any detentions set by staff

• Keeping your details up to date (phone number and email address) and signing up to our

Parent Mail system

• Encouraging your child to keep reading – we so often see students who were avid

readers in Year 6 get out of the habit through secondary school despite it being essential for

their progression in all subjects

• Attend Parents’ Evenings – Form Tutor settling in meeting in October 2019. Parent's

evening with teachers in June 2020.
