Bring a cloth surgery cap so we can tape your name to the forehead for easy identification during surgery. If you require any special gloves or scrubs you should bring this with you. *One thing students have done to save money is to get just a few pairs of special gloves that they wear continuously and then double-glove over those with regular gloves. Note that at Catnip, exam gloves are worn at all times with the exception of sterile gloves being worn for spay surgeries so there is many hours of glove wearing.

Printing

In our effort to make Community Cat Management as “green” as possible, we will not be printing binders of course materials this year. This will reduce our 2014 course impact on natural resources to the tune of about 40,000 sheets of paper! Instead, we will have all of our course materials and references electronically available on the course website. If you wish to have Powerpoint slide outlines to use for taking notes during lectures, you may want to print them from your home or office before coming to the course. (How to print slide outlines from Powerpoint.) Once you are in Gainesville, you do have the option of purchasing the “course pack” at our local printing service, Target Copy. 3422 S.W. Archer Road, Gainesville, Florida, 32608 Phone (352) 372-117

Homework Assignments to complete PRIOR to your arrival

Assignment 1: Pediatrics Please review the “Pediatrics Seminar” training video prior to your arrival since we will be demonstrating surgery on the first afternoon. Located at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTqhBEDDILA

• The video is 51 minutes long and although it is focused on pediatrics, it demonstrates the techniques we will be using in this course on all of the cats. Assignment 2: Paradigm Shift Please watch “Making the Case for a Paradigm Shift in Community Cat Management, Part One.” Located at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dD-X6zuegR0

• After watching the video, please complete and submit a “Minute Paper.” The paper should literally take a minute to complete. You will answer 3 questions and submit them online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JYZFJVR

• Minute paper questions: 1. List at least one new concept or fact you discovered as a result of this presentation? 2. What question(s) did the presentation raise for you or what would you like to know more about as a result of

this presentation? 3. How useful and/or practical did you find the information in this presentation?

We’ll use the ideas in the minute papers to help kick-start our discussions in the course. Don’t worry – we won’t use your name!

Homework during the course There is additional homework during the course. For this you will need to have access to the internet to watch recorded presentations. If available, you should plan to bring a laptop or other device with an internet connection.

Keep parking passes in your vehicle where they are visible at all times. The passes will allow you to park in ‘Red 1’ at the housing location and ‘Blue’ & ‘Green’ at the vet school location. These areas are marked on both maps. Please be extra careful to observe all signs related to parking. If you park in the wrong location, you will be ticketed.
