Meet Mrs. Bachman• I was born and raised just outside of Chicago, IL.

• I graduated from Michigan State University in 2010 with a teaching degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, and Biology. I competed on the MSU Triathlon Team during my four years of undergrad - Go Green!

• This is my third year teaching at University Liggett Middle School. I love teaching Middle School students and I love my job!

• I am a 6th Grade Advisor, I coach Upper School Cross Country and Track & Field, and I directed the Liggett Day Camp this past summer.

• In my spare time I enjoy training and racing triathlons with my husband, cooking, baking, reading, signing, being outdoors, and spending time in Traverse City with my family.

Mission of Girls PE

•Expose you to variety of sport and fitness related activities

•Equip you with the knowledge, skills, and fitness to participate safely and proficiently in a variety of sport and fitness activities

•Instill an appreciation for life-long physical activity

•Develop personal and social respect and responsibility, self-awareness, self-confidence, self-discipline, communication, teamwork, critical thinking, leadership, sportsmanship, friendship, and an appreciation for one another's unique talents.

Class Expectations

• Respect: Show respect for yourself, for others, and for your environment

• Responsibility: Come to class prepared and on time, and stay connected and up-to-date on the portal.

• Do Good Work

*Our ability to successfully engage in any of our units or activities relies on our ability as a

class to uphold these standards.

Locker Room Procedures

Locker & Lock

• Your assigned PE Locker is for you and YOU ONLY

• You are required to use a lock and are responsible for the safe keeping of your personal belongings. All personal belongings should be locked up before leaving the locker room.

Change Time

• You will have five minutes at the beginning and end of each class to change, go to the bathroom, clean up your locker room area, and lock your locker. You will not begin the activity for the day or be dismissed from class unless your locker area is clean.

Suggested Items to Keep in your Locker

• in addition to your gym shoes and uniform: deodorant, hair brush/comb, hair ties, and feminine products. Please, no sprays or perfumes in the locker room area.

• Locker Leaders: Locker leaders will rotate with the start of every new unit. Leaders are in charge of:

• Making sure their locker row areas are kept clean and reminding their classmates in their row to uphold locker room expectations.

• Reporting to the teacher any absent classmates in their row.

Dress Policy

•Liggett MS PE Uniform: You are expected to have all parts of the uniform and should wear a weather appropriate combination of the following each day:

• Liggett PE T-shirt

• Liggett PE Shorts

• Liggett PE Sweatshirt

• Liggett PE Sweatpants

•You must wear closed toe athletic shoes, preferably with laces.

•You should remove and keep in your locker any jewelry that may cause a potential safety hazard or interfere with your ability to fully participate in physical activity.

Absence Policy

• Personal (appointment, travel, etc.): If you are absent for a personal reason you may earn your daily participation points by completing a PE Make-Up for each day that you are absent.

• In an effort to meet daily physical activity guidelines, you should complete your PE Make-Up on the same day that your absence in class occurs.

• Instructions for PE Make-Ups can be found on the Portal under the Downloads section.

• Sickness or Injury: No PE Make-Up required. Your only responsibility is to get better and check in with me when you return!

• Missed Assessments: If you are absent on the day of a scheduled fitness or unit assessment you are responsible for rescheduling a time with me to complete the assessment.

Whenever possible, please notify me ahead of time about upcoming, scheduled absences.

Failure to uphold class expectations, locker room procedures, or dress and absence policies will result in the loss of participation points for

the day and in some cases, the privilege of participating in class.

GradingParticipation (75%)

• Daily Participation – 4pts possible each day:

•Respect & Responsibility (2pts): upholds locker room expectations and dresses in proper uniform

•Good Work (2pts): gives best effort while displaying a positive attitude and contributes positively to the class environment

• Connecting on Edmodo

Assessments (25%)

• Pre and Post Fitness Testing

• Unit Assessments

Grades will be updated at the end of each rotation on the portal.

Fitness Testing

• Using the Fitnessgram program, we will test in the fall and spring to assess:

• Aerobic capacity

• Muscular strength

• Muscular endurance

• Flexibility

• Body composition

• Our preparation for the tests and education about the Healthy Fitness Zone Standards will be ongoing throughout the year.

Focus:• give their personal best• evaluate current level

of fitness• set practical and

meaningful goals • support one another

throughout the process.

Fitnessgram is the new nationally recognized fitness testing program and is a part of the Presidential Youth Fitness Program

• Skating starts October 4th and runs through May 21st.• Fitness days and fitness testing preparation will occur every other

week.*Schedule is subject to change based on weather, field conditions, and extenuating circumstance.
