Welcome to year 7!
When you start in September, you may find the step up from primary school quite daunting
but don’t worry as we’re all here to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible.
IT in Year 7 – what will you be studying next year?
Hello! I am Mrs Swaine, your IT teacher and we will all be in the same position in
September – I am also quite new to King Arthur’s. You may well be
showing me around the school in the first few weeks of the new term.
A bit about me….. I have been teaching for 16 years and King Arthur’s is my third school. I
have a two year old daughter and several pets – 3 dogs and 2 cats….so I’m
very busy at home. My hobbies include baking, reading, designing and making clothes, taking my
daughter to various clubs and going for long walks and days out with our dogs.
At my previous schools, I have been on 7 school trips to Kenya as summer expeditions and 3 trips
to New York City as well as annual visits to London, Harry Potter World, Thorpe Park and Bletchley
Park – maybe some future trips at King Arthur’s could be similar!
I look forward to meeting you when you start next term.
Your Transition Project - Starting your iDEA (Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award)
This is going to be your ongoing homework project throughout year 7 so spending time over the
summer working on this will give you a head start in developing your digital, enterprise and
employability skills for your future.
What is the Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award?
iDEA is an international programme that helps you develop and demonstrate your digital,
enterprise and employability skills for free. It is made up of small modules that you can complete
on any device at any time.
iDEA is the digital and enterprise equivalent of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Bronze is beginner
level, Silver intermediate and Gold advanced. In Year 7/8 you will be completing the Bronze Award.

How do I get started?
Firstly, go to www.idea.org.uk and click on ‘Get Started’.
Use your first name and surname as the ‘nickname’ and enter your details. If you do not have an
email address, you can use a parent/carer’s email address. Create a password and then select ‘Sign
Up’.
Click on ‘Begin’ to learn how to use the website by using the tutorial:
Once you’re logged in, this is your home page. You can choose any modules in the bronze award to
complete.
You need to join King Arthur’s – so go to ‘Edit Profile’ and enter the Year 7 code – KA7_2020.
Press ‘Save’.
You can then go back to the Bronze award to start completing modules:
You are now ready to start completing modules – you can start on any category and any module
available:
What are the badges achieving?
Citizen – These badges help you learn about digital awareness, safety and ethics (knowing what’s
right and what’s wrong whilst online).
Worker – Each badge will help teach you tools and techniques which are useful in the workplace,
and employability skills (these skills will help you when getting part-time jobs in the next few
years).
Maker – These badges are all about digital creativity and show you how to build and make useful
applications and programs in the digital world.
Entrepreneur – An entrepreneur is someone who sets up their own business. These badges help
you learn how to originate ideas and bring them to life.
Your transition task: Over the summer, please aim to complete at least four modules in any of the four categories
available to you – so you achieve at least 40 points out of the 250 required for the Bronze award.
You can complete any modules across the four categories – if you like the idea of starting an online
business in the future, maybe start with some Entepreneur modules?
As you have joined an organisation (King Arthur’s) through the website, I can keep track of what
you are completing when and will give feedback on your progress. I look forward to seeing what
modules you choose and following your progress!
Wouldn’t it be great to hand out some certificates to you in Year 7 assemblies during the
Autumn term?
Start working towards your 250 points for your Bronze award
See you in September!
