WINEDID YOU KNOW?Portugal is known for producing the world renowed Porto and Madeira Wine but Lisbon itself is surrounded by diferent wine regions that produce, for example, the famous Moscatel de Setubal – a sweet fortified wine.

Moscatel is a dessert wine produced in the Setubal Penínsu-la to the south of Lisbon, which was recognized as a D.O.C. in 1907. It’s a very sweet, fragrant wine, with candied orange flavours, floral and raisiny when young, developing nutty, toffeed aromas with maturity.

SURFEXPERIENCEThe school introduces students to the sports of surfing and bodyboarding, and has developed its teaching on two levels to this end – initiation, as well as technical improvement. We have students of all ages, both male and female, and at all skill levels from beginners through to competitive surfers.

The school is open every day of the year, including week-ends and bank holidays. Our hours vary according to the tides and other sea-related conditions.

FADODID YOU KNOW?Fado means fate or destiny...

Fado emerged as a bohemian art form in Lisbon’s working-class districts of Alfama and Mouraria in the late 18th cen-tury, and gradually moved up-market.

It became popular with the singer Maria Severa, who died at the age of 26 and later became the subject of Portugal’s first sound movie in 1931. To this day, female performers wear a black shawl in her memory and her life story has been the influence of several Fado songs, poems, novels, and plays.

But it was Amalia Rodrigues in the 20th century who made Fado known beyond Portugal, performing all over Europe, Japan, South America, and even in the United States, in New York’s “La Vie en Rose” in the 1950s.
