The Coordinate Plane(part 1)
OBJECTIVE:
Each student will:• Graph points on a coordinate plane.• Name the quadrants of a coordinate
plane.• Find and position pairs of integers and
other rational numbers on a coordinate plane
Connector:
KEY VOCABULARY Coordinate plane- The plane containing the "x" axis and "y" axis.
Cartesian Coordinates- Using Cartesian Coordinates you mark a point on a graph by how far along and how far up it is. Quadrants- The four sections of a coordinate grid that are separated by the axes.
“y-axis”
“x-axis”
Coordinates- (x, y)
Quadrants
Two Points in Quadrant I
Two Points in Quadrant II
Two Points in Quadrant III
Two Points in Quadrant IV

QUESTIONS:
1. What do you notice about the coordinates of all points in quadrant I?
2. What do you notice about the coordinates of all points in quadrant II?
3. What do you notice about the coordinates of all points in quadrant III?
4. What do you notice about the coordinates of all points in quadrant IV?

CONCLUSION
The coordinate grid or coordinate plane is a useful invention which has many applications especially as you do more algebra and geometry. Make sure you have met all the objectives for today’s lesson.
