● 1060 students, 538 Year 8’s. 275 boys, 263 girls in Year 8.

● Currently 18 Year 8 and 18 Year 7 classes with an average of 30 pupils in each class (Y8).

Pastoral Care

• BYCT opportunity-Salvation Army partnership with Aspire facilitators. 10 Year 8 girls and 10 boys for weekly group work ( two hours) for personal development, leadership and teamwork, Term 2 and 3 (four groups).

• Counsellors (Wellbeing coach)-three, manned each day. Students can self refer.

• Class teachers and Deans.

• BIG FOCUS this year on School Values and Mindfulness.

Topic one: Resiliency Today – Looking at Flow, Stress-signals, Mindfulness and Self-reflection and the forces that are working to undermine our mental health (particularly our kids). 26 Feb Topic two: Resilience Fundamentals – Looking at the top 6 ways we can increase our own resiliency including breaking into chunks, failure as feedback and increasing our tolerance for discomfort. 5 March Topic three: Resilience, Mind over Mood – Looking at thinking errors, rethinking self-esteem and cognitive flexibility. 12 March

Our new payment system from 2018, KINDO, is an “online shop.” (uniforms, donations, camps, sports registrations, music tuition, Club Murrays, trips, discos, lunches…)

Very easy for teachers and parents, no cash involved and a record for everyone at your finger tips. Register with school email.

School App-App Store, schoolapps nz, then type in school name. Absentees, Kindo, links, contacts, newsletter, notifications, alerts...

● Allergies, anaphylaxis-medical forms for completion with photos.

about the condition and what we need to do.

After School● If you are picking your children up after school, can you please come after

3.15 when our nine school buses have loaded and left.

● We ask students to wait at the bottom end of the busbay to allow for traffic flow.

● Please do not wait on the yellow lines on Sunrise Ave, restricting access and visibility.

● If children need to cross the road, we ask that they use the crossing at all times. Please don’t beckon them across the road.

● Bus timetables available from school, or jump online.

Cyber Safety● Phone stance. Hand to the teacher when they get to school.

● How to sit, minimising glare and brightness, blinking and exercising eyes and taking breaks to stretch.

● School account filtering systems-Keeping posts light and bright and not posting whilst upset. Is this something you would be happy for family, friends or future employers to see?

● Instagram-13 years-used as a platform to bully. Blocking and reporting to Netsafe. Devices in bedrooms-we work, we rest (blue light / melatonin), we play. Regularly check what your children are doing online and utitilse parental controls.

● Class teachers should always be your first port of call. We also ask that children do not contact you first if unwell.

● Email is best-we will answer within 24 hours wherever possible, but we recommend our staff correspond at times other than the evenings or weekends, unless in an emergency.
