Plan of Study

You can see my plan of study during my time with DSU under that title tab

I focused more upon adult learning with my elective selections.

Philosophy

When I started the MSET program, I did not know anything about web development.

My only experience with distance education was as a student in a blended format (undergrad at USF).

This education has given me a basic knowledge on which to build

Distance Learning

CET-769: Adult Learning for Distance Education was one of my more enlightening classes

Six Best Practices of Adult Learning assignment

I can relate to this assignment; both as an educator and the learner (beginning with Blackboard)

Distance Learning

“Older learners benefit from the wisdom of actually understanding the merit and worth of education; something they may have been incapable of in their youth.” (Gorder)

I enjoyed this class because I believe that there are many adults who want to learn online but are afraid of the technology required.

Technology

As approachable as asynchronous learning is, a certain mastery of some prime technological tools and methods are required.

Some of these tools are hardware (computers, printers, scanners, mobile devices). Others are software programs (CMS, multimedia, proper use of copyrighted materials, etc.)

Methods must be altered from purely synchronous approaches.

Technology

CET-751 Computing Hardware and Networking Essentials

This class afforded me the opportunity to spend a week at DSU and enjoy dorm life for a short time.

More importantly, I was encouraged to disassemble and reassemble computers, (PC only). Demystifying the heart of DL technology (the computer) was very helpful for my overall understanding.

Management

I broke this portion away from “Management of Technology”, as I see this area as separate and distinct, an overarching theme.

Assignments within this theme highlight the essentials of DL courses, and indeed courses in general

Some of these essentials are student capability, needs assessments, budget considerations, current and projected infrastructure requirements such as computers, networks, peripherals, software, parent involvement

Management

CET-765 Leadership in Technology Change

This assignment placed me in the position of mentor for a fellow teacher desiring to become acquainted with and ultimately proficient in the use of technology assistance

This assignment required me to use the tools I have acquired at DSU

Reflections

I have focused upon my reflections throughout this portfolio

Skills and knowledge I have attained within this course have already resulted in changes at my schools (please see my “reflections” page)
