Full details will be provided at the Recruitment Presentation Welcome To National Express West Midlands and Coventry – Candidate Information National Express West Midlands is the largest bus operator in the region with some 450 bus routes; the Company operates a fleet of 1800 buses – over 1,000 of which are easy access – and carries one million passengers every working day. National Express West Midlands has 10 operating garages based in Acocks Green, Birmingham Central (near Digbeth), Bordesley, Perry Barr, Yardley Wood, Walsall, West Bromwich, Wolverhampton, Pensnett and NX Coventry and employs over 5,000 people. National Express West Midlands and Coventry are part of the National Express Group consisting of National Express Coaches Ltd and Eurolines – franchised coach operations in UK and Europe – and ALSA which operates bus and coach services throughout Spain. TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT – FUNDED BY THE COMPANY Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and hold a valid car driving licence showing no more than 6 penalty points or any disqualifications. The Company will pay for your provisional PCV licence application, PCV Medical and CPC Modules 1 to 4. You will also be paid during your period of training. The Company is committed to providing a comprehensive and quality based training programme, which incorporates practical driver training to pass a PCV Test, and all core skills required to complete the job role inclusive of Customer Care Skills, Disability and Mental Health Awareness, and local Garage Based Induction for route learning and vehicle type training. PAY You will be paid direct to a Bank or Building Society on a weekly basis. A basic hourly rate will apply. All work undertaken, including Saturday, Sunday and Bank holiday working, and any agreed overtime will be paid at the basic rate. All rates of pay are based upon your individual anniversary date with the Company. Starter Rate £8.74 Top rate, which is currently £9.78 will be achieved after 5 years service. WORKING ARRANGEMENTS – ROTA BASED The basic working week is 38 hours on an any 5 from 7 basis, which will include weekend working. The average working day is 7 hours and 36 mins. All work operates on a shift system, examples of which are as follows: Early Shifts: starting any time between 0350 and 0545 am Splits/Middle Shifts: This is where your work is split into two portions (to cover the peak travel periods) – an AM and PM duty with an unpaid break between each portion Late Shifts: usually commencing sometime between 1545 and 1800 hours in the afternoon These shifts are mutually changeable with colleagues to promote maximum flexibility PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTION All drivers are encouraged and supported to undertake the Transport Industry Professional Qualification for bus drivers – NVQ Level 2 in Road Passenger Transport which is a nationally recognised award. There will also be ongoing development towards CPC Qualification. All employees are entitled to apply for vacancies/promotion opportunities that arise within the Company.
