Odessa region occupies the territory of north-western Black Sea coastline.Odessa region is the largest in Ukraine by it’s area – 33,3 ths. sq. km.The population of the region counts 2,4 million people and consists of 133 nationalities

The total length of sea coastline exceeds 300km.Free access to Black Sea-Azov basin and to large river routs of the Danube and the Dniester gives good advantages to Odessa region in the development of transport infrastructure

biggest ports of the Black Sea

basin. Its berths allows to take

freight ships with tonnage up to 100 thousand tons. Port also

takes cruise ships with length up

to 272m. Technical capability of the port allows to process more

then 14 million tons of dry cargo

and 24 million tons of oil products per year. 30 million

tons of cargo are overloaded by

Sea port of Illichivsk specializes in container transfer. Private Enterprise “Ukrtransconteiner”realizes invest project in Seaport of Illichivsk that provides improvement of container terminal

with purpose of capacity increasing

The project’s realization program is

provided till 2015.

The total value of investments is

500 mln. USDMore then 50 mln. USD have been

already invested in the project.

The opening of the first turn of thenew Ukrainian container terminal,

that meets the European standards,

will take place in November 2007.

The Working Community of the Danube Countries was created in 1990. Its members are 39 regions from 9 countries. Odessa Regionbecame the member of WCDC in 1994
