Jubilee Year of MercyJuly 31, 2016Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time“You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you” (Luke 12:20). Hardly sounds like mer-cy! Unlike some contemporary rich folks, there is no indication of lying, stealing, or cheating in Jesus’ parable. The rich man made a living, not a killing. Why does Jesus name him “fool”? First, because of presumption. Five times in nine verses, the rich man declares, “I shall.” God’s not in charge here, I am! Second, selfishness—four times, “my/myself.” No God, no neighbor; he talks to himself, about himself: my possessions, my productivity, my plans! So, instead of chasing “treasure for ourselves,” Jesus and Pope Francis’ Jubilee Year of Mercy bid us grow “rich in what matters to God” (12:21), namely, the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. Give food, drink, cloth-ing, and healing; visit the imprisoned; bury the dead. Heal with Jesus’ own gentleness the doubt, ignorance, and sins of others; comfort, forgive, be patient; and pray for theliving and dead.

R.C.I.A.Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
COME AND SEE!Are you, or do you know anyone, who has not yet been baptized or was baptized in another Christian faith? Ever wondered why Catholics bless themselves with the sign of the cross, what they believe about communion, what’s up with all those saints and statues, and rosaries, and standing, sitting and kneeling? Why does Mary seem so important? Well, why not come and see and come and learn?
This year’s RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) Program begins on Thursday, September 8. There’s no cost, no obligation, no commitment necessary. In a series of friendly, informative and spiritually exciting classes we will explore the major things Catholics believe and why. We will learn more about the Mass and what is happening and why. Learn about prayer, scripture, sacraments and Church history, and much more.
Are you Catholic and interested in learning more about your faith? Would you be willing to be part of this program to be part of a faith community willing to journey with and support those interested in learning more about our faith? Now may be the moment that God is calling you to be part of an exciting ministry.
So, if you are currently a non-Catholic wanting to learn more about Catholicism, or a Catho-lic willing to be part of an exciting ministry, please call Sandy Dodson at (512) 213-4554 or Deacon John Kerrigan at (214) 886-8239. You may also email Deacon John at [email protected].
God may be calling you. Listen, pray and come and see….
Santa Cruz Church, Buda, Texas Decimoctavo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
July 30-3118th Sunday in Ordinary TimeMore than any other of the evangelists, Luke is concerned about greed and materialism. In today’s Gospel we hear one of the parables of Jesus regarding greed. What does it profit us to hoard? The readings invite us to con-template what we really need and what is too much. Each of us needs to discern this accord-ing to our consciences and circumstances. What are the riches that will last? Not material possessions, but love and relationships and particularly for Christians, love and care for the poor and vulnerable. This is the treasure that will last!

For your SafetyWe ask that parishioners not block the double doors leading into the Church near the bap-tismal font.
This is especially important for parents of small children. If the children are near the door, they could be injured by someone push-ing the door to exit.
For safety and in case of emergency, it is important that all doors are easily accessible during Mass.
Thank you!
¡Gracias!
