Partner Project
Goals:
• Partner with one or two other students in your class and get to know each other.
• Practice how to be a thoughtful, creative and respectful partner.
• Complete the project.• Record your thinking in your science
notebook.• Share what your team worked on with the rest
of the grade.
Partner Project #1
• Discuss, plan, design, record and build a
Popsicle stick Bridge!
Materials/Resources
Popsicle sticks < = 150 sticks•White glue•Science Notebooks•One computer per group (if available)•Graph paper, pens, pencils, rulers•Your creativity and perseverance
Procedure:research bridges tonight!
• Day 1: Meet with your team, – talk, share, make drawings and agree on a
plan. Start building.
Day 2: Continue building your bridge, everyone must help!
Day 3: Keep building! Record your steps, observations, and questions.
– Have fun.
Time Frame
• Teams will work together on Wednesday through Friday, 1pm to 2pm.
• Bridges will dry completely over the long weekend and teams will share their designs on Tuesday, September 2nd at 10am.
Rules
• You may only use the supplies/resources listed and made available at school.
• You may only actively work on the bridge at school.
• You may not ask for help outside of your team and teacher.
Successful Project Requirements
• Your bridge has to be at least 1 foot long. • It must stand on its own and span an opening
of at least 8 inches wide.• A Matchbook car must be able to be pushed
across the road portion.• Each team member must keep their own
notebook with a minimum of three entries, one per day. (Homework is ok)
• Each member must help in each phase; discussion, planning, design and building.
Optional Strength Test
• During recess, next week, a teacher will help teams test the strength of their bridge using weights.
• Bridges may break under the pressure and all team members will have to agree to the testing.
