Welcome to our PrepsThe foundation students are settling beautifully into the
routines of school life...and loving it! It is such a pleasure to see their eager little faces, and to be greeted by beaming smiles at the door every morning. No doubt there have
been some rather tired children over the past week, as the children adjust to the routines, demands and fun and
games that is school.
ReadingWe encourage your child to read their take home book with you every night and that you sign their reading journal. We also encourage you to continue reading picture story books and chapter books to your child on a daily basis to instill a love of reading. Daily reading is essential to help your child
develop their reading ability and improve their oral language.
Specialist TimesThe children will have their specialist classes, Art, PE and Italian on Thursday. This will change to Wednesdays once
the children are at school full time. Please ensure your child has a named art smock (or old shirt) ASAP. Children are encouraged to wear runners on these days and bike
short under school dresses, or wear shorts, skorts or long pants.
LibraryPreps will have a library session once a week on Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure your child has a named library
book bag (seperate from their black take home book bag).
Reminders● Can we please ask that students only drink water at school and bring two
serves of fruit (fresh/raw) for fruit breaks each day● We respectfully ask that students remain outside the prep doors until the
8.50am bell rings and the doors will be opened for us to greet the children. Could parents please remain outside until the 3.30pm bell rings and the
teachers open the doors.● Parents/family helpers are very welcome in the classroom. If you are
interested, please provide a copy of your mandatory Working With Children Check to the office. More information can be found at:
http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au● Please ensure you have returned permission slips as we have some lovely
photos we are waiting to share with you

What is a sentence? The children have been learning that a sentence is a group of words that makes sense. It always starts with a capital and usually ends with a full stop. Ask your children what happens if you don’t leave spaces between your words.
The children have also been busy creating wonderful self portraits and drawing their families.
Please come in and see what the children have been up to in their first few days of school.
