COMMUNION ETIQUETTE We invite you to the importance of reverence when you approach the altar to receive Jesus in Holy Communion. When you stand in front of the priest or communion minister it is customary to bow your head as a sign of reverence and to respond Amen as the priest or minister says the Body or Blood of Christ. There are 2 proper ways to receive communion: either on the tongue or in your out-stretched hands. It is not proper or acceptable to reach out and grab the host. In the next few weeks, we will return to the practice of having the altar servers or ushers hold a paten in front of you as communion is distributed.

FEB. 11 - HOLY HOUR FOR VOCATIONS IN THE MAIN CHURCH

APRIL 14 - TENTATIVE DATE FOR BLOOD DRIVE

Dear Parish Family, I find myself a little overwhelmed as the reality of Monsignor Villani's death sets in. We never expected this to be the outcome when he went to the hospital two weeks ago. But God is merciful and Monsignor had a beautiful death exactly where he wanted to be... in his own room in the rectory. There are so many people to thank for their help and participation over these two weeks: The staff at Maimonides Community Hospital took great care of Monsignor... Calvary Hospice was ready immedi-ately to provide care in the rectory... Our own staff more than rose to the occasion throughout this ordeal. I am so proud of them and grateful to them. The 70th Precinct was responsive to our request and attentive during the wake and funeral. The fire house on E14 Street was helpful in providing the bunting for the front of the church. No words can express my respect and appreciation for Tom Will, Mike, and the entire staff of Marine Park Funeral Home for their reverence, patience, and cooperation. They treated Monsignor and all of us with great kindness... Our servers, choir, ushers all did their usual fine job. The teens were great in assisting Ashley with the reception after the funeral. Kendall honored Monsignor's military service by playing taps on the portico! Along with the Bishops and visiting priests, we were honored by the presence of Father Vasile, Bishop Anthony DeLuca of the Syrian Orthodox Church, and our neighbor, Father Eugene Pappas, from the Church of the Three Hierarchs. Please forgive me if I have forgotten anyone... What more can I say? Out of respect for Monsignor Villani, we have cancelled the Dinner Dance at Gargiulo. There will be a Month's Mind Mass for Monsignor on Friday evening February 22nd at 7:30p.m. Please join us! There will be a Holy Hour for Vocations on Monday evening, February 11th at 7:30. Father Sean Suckiel, the Diocesan Vocation Director, will speak along with a representative of one of our religious communities! Every family should be represented. I am truly grateful for the presence of Father Jean... he will remain with us throughout February and then return to Rome.

Peace and blessings, Father Peter

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.

Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.

The money that is donated from our weekly collections is an important source of income for the parish. Our weekly expenses include utilities, insurance fees, salaries, ongoing

maintenance, repairs, and numerous other bills for operating expenses….as well as the increasing costs for the parish programs, ministries and services we offer here at St. Brendan. If possible, if each of our parishioners could just increase their weekly contribution, BY ONE OR TWO DOLLARS it would greatly help offset the increasing costs faced by our church. We want to assure you that every single penny donated goes right back into our church, the operations of our church and our parish programs.

Thank you for your continuing generosity.

Prayer for the Spread of Perpetual Adoration Heavenly Father, increase our faith in the Real Presence of Your Son Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. We are obliged to adore Him, to give Him thanks and to make reparation for sins. We need your peace in our hearts and among nations. We need conversion from our sins and the mercy of Your forgiveness. May we obtain this through prayer and our union with the Eucharistic Lord. Please send down the Holy Spirit upon all peoples to give them the love, courage, strength and willingness to respond the invitation to Eucharistic Adoration. We beseech You to spread Perpetual Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacra-ment in parishes around the world. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Help us to spread the glory of Your Son Through Perpetual Adoration. Amen

— 1 Corintios 13:13

LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA Lunes: Heb 11:32-40; Sal 31 (30):20-24; Mc 5:1-20 Martes: Heb 12:1-4; Sal 22 (21):26b-28, 30-32; Mc 5:21-43 Miércoles: Heb 12:4-7, 11-15; Sal 103 (102):1-2, 13-14, 17-18a; Mc 6:1-6 Jueves: Heb 12:18-19, 21-24; Sal 48 (47):2-4, 9-11; Mc 6:7-13 Viernes: Heb 13:1-8; Sal 27 (26):1, 3, 5, 8b-9; Mc 6:14-29 Sábado: Heb 13:15-17, 20-21; Sal 23 (22):1-6; Mc 6:30-34 Domingo: Is 6:1-2a, 3-8; Sal 138 (137):1-5, 7-8; 1 Cor 15:1-11 [3-8, 11]; Lc 5:1-11
