Can you tell me about the Basic
Skills test?0 The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) changed
the passing score for this test and now it is very
difficult to pass; you must study for this test.
0 Its best to take the test while the information covered in
the test is still fresh in your mind; take it as soon after highschool as you can.

More about the Basic Skills0 4 parts to the test: 1) Reading Comprehension, 2) Language Arts (grammar
and writing), 3) Math, 4) a constructed-response writing assignment.
0 You must pass all 4 parts of the test to qualify for the minor. Your applicationwill not be reviewed if you dont pass all parts of the test.
0 If you pass 3 parts and dont pass 1 part, you can retake only that 1 part totry to pass. That does count as another try on the test.
0 You get 5 tries on this test, if you dont pass after 5 times, you will never bepermitted to get certified to teach in the state of Illinois.
