Parsha Points by Netanel Barsky (6th grade at Akiba-Schechter)
Brought to you by the ASBI Education Committee In Parshat Pinchas, Aaron’s grandson (Pinchas) is rewarded for killing Zimri, the Simeonite
prince. He is also rewarded for killing the Midianite princess. Hashem blesses Pinchas with a
covenant of peace.
Moshe counts B’nai Israel: the number of men between the ages of twenty and sixty is
601,730.
Moshe is told that the Land of Israel should be divided among the tribes by a lottery.
The end of the parsha is about the daily offerings and other offerings brought on Shabbat,
Rosh Chodesh, Pesach, Shavuot, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, and Shemini Atzeret.
Hashem tells Moshe to look over the Land of Israel before he dies. Moshe wants to be sure
that there is somebody to lead B’nai Israel, and Hashem tells him to appoint Yehoshua as the
next leader. The laws of inheritance are explained through the story of Zelophehad’s
daughters.

UPCOMING EVENTS
KOREN MACHZORIM IN 5777
The ASBI Board of Directors has decided to replace our
aging Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur machzorim with the
machzorim that were published just a few years ago by Koren
Publishers in Jerusalem, featuring the translation and
commentary of former British chief rabbi, Rabbi Dr. Lord
Jonathan Sacks. Koren's machzor enables English-speaking
worshippers to connect in new ways to one of Judaism's oldest
books. We invite you to honor your friends and loved ones
and to support the spiritual life of the shul by dedicating one or more
machzorim sets, or making a donation towards the purchase of machzorim.
Visit asbi.org/mahzor-5777.html to participate or learn more. This is a special
opportunity to make an investment into the spiritual future of our
congregation, as these new machzorim will be a tool for our prayers for years
to come.
Lakefront Eruv Expansion
ASBI is partnering with Anshe Emet to
investigate the feasibility of expanding
the Lakefront Eruv north of Irving Park.
If you know of specific locations that

please email [email protected].
