Officiant: Almighty God, you sent your Holy Spirit to be the life and light of your

Church. Open our hearts to the riches of your grace, that we may

Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

A Reading from the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 14.22-33)

Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the

other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had

dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray.

When evening came, he was there alone, but by this time the boat,

battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was

against them. And early in the morning he came walking toward

them on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea,

they were terrified, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear.

But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; do

not be afraid.”

Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he noticed

the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he

cried out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” When they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat

worshipped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Officiant: I believe in God,

People: the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and

born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the

dead.

On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

and role of the church. Remind us that it is your Church, and

not ours, your work, your power, and your kingdom.

Leader: We pray for the world with all its insecurity and confusion.

Prayers for the world are offered

Leader: Faithful God, come to us in the troubles of the world, when we and

others fail to consider the needs of others, or let down our friends,

give us the courage to ask for forgiveness and the strength to reach

out and begin again. Bless us all with the love that never lets us

down.

Leader: We pray for the sick and suffering, and for all who are battling the

storms of life.
