ACADEMIC STRATEGIES- TROOPER TIME During the first six weeks, a focus will

be made on learning and using AVID Strategies and a School-Wide Organizational System based on the AVID Binder and AVID Expectations for Organization.

Time is spent assisting students in making good choices.

Preparing for fall and spring conferences are done during this time.

Some assemblies are held during this time.

BULLYING PREVENTION Students learn about the Olweus

Program which is the district-wide Bully Prevention Program.

Class meetings are held in order to build relationships and address various topics related to Bullying Prevention.

BRAT PACKBUILDING RESISTANT ADAPTIVE TEENS Students have an opportunity to learn about

ways to deal/cope with the Military Lifestyle.

MTSS CORE E Beginning during the second six weeks. Time spent on developing the literacy

and problem-solving skills of all students.

Time for teaching strategies listed on our school improvement plan.

Time for regrouping students to provide appropriate support for literacy, math, and enrichment.

Opportunity for ESS-CWC staff to meet with their students.

TEAM EXPECTATIONS You will be counted tardy if you come in the

room once the door is closed unless you have a pass.

Come to the classroom prepared to learn with ALL of your classroom materials.

THE TEACHER will dismiss you at the end of class when all areas are clean.

All passes will be written in planner by student and signed by the teacher after asking permission.

Beginning on page 148 of the planner, ONE PAGE of passes will be allotted for each six week grading period.

TEAM EXPECTATIONS You must bring the following items to every

class: BIG Binder (with paper, pencil. . .) Library Book Textbook (if one) Composition Book (All Core Classes) Planner

We expect all students to attend their classes every day, on time, ready and with the desire to learn. Being on time means a student is in the assigned classroom/work area with materials and ready to become involved in the learning activities of that class. (Tardies on page 13)

PARENT EXPECTATIONS: Help your student be on time, attend school

regularly, and complete make-up work. Support FRMS’s anti-bullying program. Help your student comply with the handbook

polices. Review your student’s planner and grades

through Skyward- Family Access. Monitor your student’s screen time and use

of technology. Communicate regularly with teachers. Help your student resolve conflicts by

respecting the differences of others.

ELECTIVE COURSES: Art: Students will build fundamental

arts skills by creating a variety of two and three-dimensional art projects.

Band: An interesting and challenging class for students that want to learn to play a band instrument. Advanced band will continue building upon skills learned in beginning band. There is a financial commitment for parents with band instruments. Students are required to practice their instrument at home.

Orchestra: Students develop further skills based on the fundamentals learned in beginning orchestra and there is more focus given to performances.

Vocal Music: Choir students will learn theory of music and will improve their vocal technique. Students are required to sing in at least two concerts during the semester.

Technology: Students explore modules using a multi-sensory approach rotating through stations of computers, video, hands-on activities and text based information.

Careers: Students will learn the basics of what you need to succeed in today’s workplace.

Computer Studies: Students will learn skills in: keyboarding, word processing, data base, spreadsheet, PowerPoint, and use of the Internet for research.

Family and Consumer Science (FACS): A class which will assist all students in the development of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities necessary for satisfying personal and family living.

Foreign Languages: Students will learn everyday vocabulary, complete comprehensive projects, “hands on” exercises, and study the cultures of many countries.

Literacy Lab: This class combines shared reading, small group instruction, reading and comprehension strategies to provide literacy skills to students who need additional support. Students are selected based on reading level and teacher recommendation.

Physical Education: A middle school curriculum designed to provide adolescents with knowledge and skills to enjoy a physically active lifestyle.

Math Strategies: This course helps build mathematical confidence and ability. Concepts are learned through hands on activities, literature, problem-solving, and group work. (By teacher recommendation only)

PIBS/Positive Intervention Behavior Supports: This is a smaller class which helps students who just need extra support.
