Manyofyouknowthatin2010myformercongrega9on,ZioninLongValley,celebratedtheir250thAnniversary.ItwasabigdealcompletewithavisitfromthePresidingBishopoftheELCAatthe9me,BishopMarkHansen.ALerthatexperience,servingacongrega9onrecognizingonlyfiLyyearsseemsaliPlean9climac9c.
Forgiveme.FiLyyearsisamilestoneworthyofcelebra9on.A50thanniversaryisa9metomarkwherewe'vebeen,butitisalsoanoccasiontosetacourseforwherewearegoing.Indeed,their250thanniversarysetZionapartfrommostcongrega9onsintheELCA.ButfiLyyearsisnothingtosneezeat.Wewillmarktheyearappropriately.

DuringtheseasonofLent,thechoirwillbeconductedbyourthreeyoungmusicians.BillMosherwillconductthechoironafavoriteofours,acombina9onofStrengthenforServiceandLord,KeepUsSteadfastinYourWord.ChurchMusicianTomMarvilwillconductthepenitentIWalkaStrangeronThisLand.AndMusicMinistryInternRachelTylerwillconductoneofourgreatfavorites,MarkHayes’arrangementofAmazingGrace.

Three Community Events Coming This Spring
RememberhowTrishaSindhucametoPrinceofPeaceS9tcherstogettheirhelpwiththeplarn(plas9cyarn)matsmadeforthehomelessfromrecyclingplas9cshoppingbags?SincethentheAllentownHighSchoolLeoClubhascollectedaroomfulofplas9cbags,hadfourplarn-makingsessionsandtwocrochetlessonsessionsforinterestedstudents,enlistedthehelpofFourSeasonsre9rementcommunity,theAllentownLionsClub,theAHSGreenbirdsClub,andnowhasfourteachersandastudentallworkingoncroche9ngmatswhileothersinthecommunityworkonpillowsstuffedwiththeleLoverpartsofthebags.
Lastweek,wordspreadfurtherandJCFowler,CoordinatorofHighSchoolandYoungAdultMinistriesforAllentownPresbyterianChurch(APC)acrossfromtheschoolinAllentowncontactedNancyReyeslookingforideasformissionworkthattheirhighschoolyouthgroupcoulddofortheironce-a-monthmission-workmee9ng.WithinafewdaysthedirectorvisitedNancy,learnedhowtomakeplarn,andscheduledaneveningwhereshecouldhelptheyouthandotherstherelearntheprocess.
TheywereamazedatthemattheysawinprogressandspentoveranhourmakingplarnfortheLeoClubproject—thendecidedtoworkonthiseverymonth.Parentscominginstartedtalkingaboutteachingsomeofthemtocrochetiftheywantedtoworkonthenextstep,andmanyadultsjoinedinthe
effortthatnight,somecumngandsomelooping.Atthesame9me,manyconversa9onswereheard:studentsjustgemngacquaintedaroundmytablesharingtheircurrentinterestsandtalkingaboutthegroup'smissiontripstoMaineeachyear;severalpastmemberscameinwithafriendnotpartofthechurchjustwan9ngtoseewhatthegroupwasallaboutandwerewelcomedbythecurrentmembers;social9me;sharingamealtogether;talkingaboutJesus;andbeingthehandsandfeetofJesusinthecommunity.Itwasclearlyobviousthateveryonewaswelcomeintothisdiversegroup.
Whileweweremakingplarn,someinthekitchenwerecookingmealsfortheneedy,othersweremakingcollec9onbagsfortheirfoodpantryandcanvasinganareatocollectdona9ons,andsomuchmore—seniorci9zens,parents,collegeandhighschoolstudentsallworkingandinterac9ngatthisYouthGroupnight,somefromthatchurchandothersinthecommunitythatjoininthisoutreachtoyouth....
God'sWordandHisWorkcon9nuestospread,andthesematsthatstartedasaGirlScoutprojectsupportedbyagroupatPrinceofPeacewasjustoneseedthatcon9nuestobesown,anditsfruitcon9nuestogrow.
