Mission Statement Through our baptism, we, the family of Saint Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, are chosen and called to be the body of Christ. As a community of faith, we gather to give thanks and praise to God through prayer, worship, and the celebration of the sacraments. Gifted by God and guided by the Holy Spirit, we continue the mission of Jesus by sharing our faith and reaching out to others in justice, mercy, and love. Together, we strive to grow stronger in our love for God and one another.

God’s Time We either pay attention to or ignore “clock time” as we play in the summer sun and note the earth’s tilt and the lengthening days. We live by time. We reckon time in seconds and minutes and hours, or we use broader chunks like suppertime and summertime. God keeps another sort of time. God speaks to us of “saving time,” that is, the time of salvation. This sense of time is called Kairos, and this time is always now, always present and available, always revealing, often surprising. This Sunday’s readings alert us to the reality and the import of God’s time. Ezekiel and the Gospel of Mark remind us that our labor and our plotting and our planning rest in God. For God takes our smallest efforts and makes of them great works. Paul points us to the “harvest” time, urges us to be watchful for its coming, and calls us to recognize that we must spend our time pleasing God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults The R.C.I.A. is a formation process for adults (18 years of age and older) who wish to become Catholic. Classes are held in the rectory or church hall for learning, faith sharing and fellowship. The culmination of the R.C.I.A. is at the Easter Vigil at which time we will celebrate the sacraments of

initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. If you or someone you know may be interested in becoming Catholic and being involved in the R.C.I.A. classes, please call the rectory.

The Preparation of the Altar The altar is the focal point of our churches. It is a sign of Christ in our midst; indeed, it has been said that “the altar is Christ” (Dedication of an Altar, 4). The altar is a table “on which the sacrifice of the cross is perpetuated in mystery throughout the ages until Christ comes”; but it is also the place for a festive meal: “a table at which the Church’s children assemble to give thanks to God and receive the body and blood of Christ” (Dedication of an Altar, 4). Both these functions of the altar are clear in the rites for the preparation of the altar that follow the general intercessions, which remind us of the prepa-rations we make at home for a festive meal. The deacon or altar servers come forward and, bowing, place a cloth known as a corporal (from the Latin for “body”) over the altar cloth. They place the chalice, the cup to be used in the celebration of the Eucharist, and the Sacramentary or Roman Missal, which contains the prayers of the Mass, on the altar. These reverent preparations help us to focus on what is about to happen: the sharing of a holy meal, a solemn sacrifice. — Corinna Laughlin, Copyright

Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time June 13, 2021

The Obligation to Attend Sunday Mass In light of improving circumstances, a reduction in infections and more people being vaccinated, Bishop David Bonnar and the Catholic Bishops of Ohio have decided that the general obli-gation to attend Mass on Sunday and Holy Days was rein-stated last weekend June 5-6, 2021. The following revised Directives and Guidance for Public Liturgies on Sunday and Weekday Mass is issued for all parishes in the Diocese of Youngstown following the latest revised directives from the CDC and the State of Ohio. General Considerations: Those who are ill, have significant health risk factors or care for someone who is compromised or ill, are exempt from attending Mass on Sunday and Holy Days as well as those who have significant fear or anxiety of contracting the coronavirus in a large group of people. These should observe the Lord’s Day and are encouraged to spend time in prayer on Sunday, meditating on the Lord’s passion, death and resurrection. An appropriate way to do this is through viewing a broadcast of Sunday Mass. Please note that Mass that is broadcast through various media, including live stream, is not intended as an alternative nor does it fulfill the obligation for persons who are able to gather for a Sunday celebration and other Holy Days. Continuing Restrictions: In an effort to maintain a reasona-ble sense of comfort and to alleviate any undue stress or anxie-ty among those in attendance, the following remain in effect with the hope of their gradual reintroduction to the liturgy in the coming months as people become more comfortable. Sign of Peace: The sign of peace is not suspended, just the gesture of shaking hands. The spoken invitation to offer a sign of peace continues and those present are encouraged to bow to others and offer words of peace. Reception of the Precious Blood: At the present time the current environment suggests that reintroducing the reception of the Precious Blood from the chalice by the assembly is not prudent. When circumstances improve, the reintroduction of the reception of the Precious Blood by the faithful will be made possible. Thank you!

Mass Intentions Have you ever thought of memorializing a special event – birthday, anniversary, or any other special happening? Mass intentions are not limited to only remembering loved ones who have passed away; they can also be offered to commemorate a special event such as a birthday, anniversary or other special moments. In addition, Mass can also be offered for other causes as well – the sick, lonely, unemployed, less fortunate etc. Please contact the rectory or drop your requests in the collection basket. If you are remembering a special event please be sure to include that with your request. The customary offering is $10.00 for each intention.
