Dear People of Holy Family, St. Mary and St. Anthony Parish:
“Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire,
which came and rested on each one of them.”
(Acts 2:3)
Maybe the Spirit lands lower these days. When I look at our graduates standing before
us in church, I don’t see the flame above their heads. I see it flaring forth from their
eyes and hearts. I know those first apostles were filled with miraculous powers by the
Holy Spirit. But these young men and women are filled with wonderful gifts that come
only from God as well. The faith, hope and love that fills them today is of the same
substance as the faith, hope and love that filled those first apostles, if still different in degree.
Congratulations parents! And blessings to all graduates as you step out in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Other congratulations are in order today as well. We are able to announce the results of last weekend’s Parish
Council elections. Each year three new people are needed. Two are elected and one is appointed by the
pastor. The appointment allows the pastor to make sure the council stays balanced age, sex and talent wise.
Holy Family elected Keith Volovsek and Mary Lou Behrens to second terms and I’ve appointed Tom Revier
to his first term. St. Mary’s elected Luke Nigon to a second term and Jeni Raese to a first term. And I have
appointed Dale Walde to his first term. St. Anthony elected Richard Bravener to a second term and Don
Bangart to a first term. And I have appointed Julie Loos to her first term. New members will dive right into
the thick of it on June 21st when the combined councils will meet to give final approval to the budget. I will
be contacting those who did not get elected or appointed to the council to invite them to serve in another area
of parish life. Thank you nominations committees for your work. And thank you to all who ran.
Even though we have a lot of projects going at the moment, we have not forgotten about one of our most
Spirited events each year: Vacation Bible School! We are a bit behind schedule because Polly Lindner who
has been our fearless leader for years, understandably wants to follow her children into other age appropriate
activities. It comes as no surprise that she leaves big shoes to fill. But…. We have just filled them!
Jess Quicker, from Neillsville, is doing an internship at the House of Mercy for Catholic Charities for her
degree in Psychology and Philosophy. She is planning to be a Counselor after graduation from St. Mary’s
University. Jess worked for Totus Tuum last summer, which is a Catholic evangelization team that puts on
week long youth programs during the summer all over the country. Jess has also led VBS programs like ours
in the past. Sharon Street and Lacii Kautzer, both team members in past years, are working with Jess to set
up a program for this summer. They would like feedback on the dates. With our late start they’d like to
move it later in the summer to July 8, 9, 10, 11. It would again be a 6:00pm to 8:00pm program. If you have
thoughts about those dates or would like to help Jess, Sharon and Lacii put this together, please contact them
or the parish office.
They were thinking that perhaps one of the VBS activities could be preparing a presentation for the
150th Diocesan Anniversary Mass with the Bishop on July 15th. Our Family Life Committee, overseeing
preparations for that celebration invite members of all three parishes to write down some memories of the
early days of our parishes to be shared during the potluck after the Anniversary Mass. Please send those into
the parish office and we will get them to the story tellers.
Lastly, I make a connection between the news and our bulletin. We begin advertising today for the June 9 &
10 visit of Blest Art. You no doubt remember the beautiful wood religious carvings made of olive wood in
the Holy Land they bring to us each year. In 2016 when we went to the Holy Land, we visited Bethlehem
where these wood carvings are made. We passed through the gates of a 20 foot high cement wall that
encloses Bethlehem, because it is a Palestinian Christian settlement. Christians are caught in the middle of
the Conflict between the Israeli Jews and Palestinian Muslims. Many of them depend on the sale of these
carvings for their continued existence there. They are passionate about staying to preserve a Christian
presence in the Holy Land. But they need our help to do so. When there, I saw fire in their eyes and hearts.
Surely of the same substance as at Pentecost.
Fr. Steve

Sacristans Wanted
St. Mary and St. Anthony Parish are seeking additional Sacristans. A sacristan sets up the bread, wine and vessels for weekend Masses. This is especially help-ful when there is a visiting priest. At St. Anthony’s we are also looking for a Head Sacristan which would in-volve keeping track of liturgical supplies (hosts, wine, candles, etc) and working with the parish finance sec-retaries to order when needed. If interested contact Florence Briski or Fr. Steve.
Artist Needed.
When a person joins one of our parishes, the Family Life Committee presents them with a Welcome Basket including items like a parish pictorial directory, parish cook books, maple syrup and information about the community. They would like to also give them a cruci-fix. The gift would be even more meaningful if made by parish members. If you would be interested in mak-ing crucifixes to be given as gifts please contact Candy Strey or Fr. Steve.
