Match-up Procedure
• Problems:– Sonde drifts during ascent– Time difference between sonde launch and
overpass

Solution: Look at a target area, we take a 50km circle.
Striking: Atmospheric inhomogeneity can be a problem.

Error Model• The 50km inhomogeneity is the
dominant error source. Error model:
i = C0 + 50km
• C0 is small, we take 0.5K.

Conclusions• It is worthwhile to compare operational satellite
humidity data and radiosondes.• Comparison in radiance space avoids inverse
problem.• A good match-up methodology is crucial.• Tests consistency of:
