Pacific Trip - Preparations for Conway ReefIn preparation for an operation from Conway Reef later thisyear, Hrane, YT1AD is making a trip to do some of the preparatory work. He plans to visit Samoa this week and possible be on the air as 5W8A. Then he plans to visit American Samoa Jan 22-25 and operate as KH8/N9YU. Finally he will goto Fiji Jan 26-29 and be on the as 3D2AD. Keep checking theweb site for more details on the Conway DXpedition:

S9DX - SAO TOMEA group of eight German Ops will be operating from RolasIsland (AF-023) February 4-17. They plan to have two (2) K3radios with 600 watt amplifiers on the air 24/7, working 160-6meters using RTTY/SSB/CW. Watch their web site for moredetails: <http://s9dx.hkmann.de/>. QSL via DL1RTL.

Southeast AsiaHans, DF5UG is on a “tour” through SE Asia. Starting January15th he will be active as 9M2QQ, 9M8QQ and HSØZFU.He also plans to be in Brunei operating as V85QQ. No specificoperating details were given. QSL any of these calls/QSOs via his home call.

SV2ASP/A - MOUNT ATHOSSome good news from/about Monk Apollo: He is back on theair with 100w and a multi-band vertical and some dipoles. Heis bunkered in for the winter and will be more active over thenext few weeks. Next summer he hopes to get moved into hispermanent room and ham shack. He will then put up his newtubular tower and SteppIR 3 ele. Yagi, which he already has instorage there at Mt. Athos.

ZD9GI - GOUGH ISLANDJohan, ZS1A tells us: Just some info regarding ZD9GI. ZD9GIis now active on PSK31. Take note that there is a pirate operating under ZD9GI on CW. This is NOT the true ZD9GI.ZD9GI does not operate CW for now. Please publish this infoas urgent. Also all the QSL cards for ZD9GI are 100% up todate and no cards are outstanding.

• Average daily sunspot numbers declined 12 points to 38 during the past week compared to 50 the week of December 30th. Average daily solar flux declined by nearly six points to 83.8

• The latest forecast shows solar flux at 80 on January 14-15, 78 on January 16-21, and back to 80 on January 22-25, 82 on January 26, 88 on January 27-30, and 89 on January 31. The same forecast has planetary A index for January 14 at 8, January 15 at 7, and January 16-31 at 5.

 

• Geophysical Institute Prague sees unsettled geomagnetic conditions on January 14-15, quiet to unsettled January 16, unsettled January 17-18, quiet to unsettled January 19, and quiet on January 20.
