MISSION STATEMENT The mission of Sacred Heart Parish is to be the spiritual focal point for the Catholic Christian community in our portion of the Diocese of Des Moines. This community:
Believes and proclaims that Jesus Christ is Lord;
Calls its people to experience and put into practice the love of Jesus Christ;
Draws its people into the social and spiritual life of the parish so that each has a sense of belonging;
Seeks to help its members take on the "mind of Christ" through prayer, study and worship;
Uses and returns the gifts and talents God has given; Is itself a sign calling its members to hear and respond in ministry to the spiritual and temporal needs of people within the parish and beyond.

3 Lessons about joy from the “happiest woman ” Sophia Swinford |
Soul Pancake, a media company dedicated to positive and inspiring content for optimistic millennials, decided to take an analytical approach to happiness when they launched their Science of Happinessproject. But in all the studies and surveys conducted, there was one woman who stood out above all others. She alone managed to score 100 percent on their happiness survey, possibly making her “the happiest woman ever.” When asked how she can be so joyful, she shared 3 keys to how she sows happiness in her daily life:
Gratitude Every morning begins with gratitude to God for waking up, for being given another day. Then, she says, she thanks God for running water, for soap, for toothpaste, for food. “Sometimes we get up and we think, ‘I don’t think I can make it today,’ but we have to realize that we are truly blessed,” she says.
Service We don’t have to make an exception to our daily lives in order to serve. In fact, service is less an action one plans out than it is a whole attitude of being. “After I meditate and have my prayer,” she continues. “I just say, ‘Okay, God, how may I serve you today? And who can I help today?'”
Childlikeness Cartoons, she adds surprisingly, are also vital to her happiness. Fostering a sense of simplicity and childlikeness before she begins her day helps create peace as she awaits answers to her questions for God. Sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference. If you find yourself overwhelmed or discontented, you might try creating simplicity and peace in your morning routine. Instead of checking your phone or answering emails first thing in the morning, take a moment to be grateful and maybe even watch some cartoons!

MASS INTENTIONS FOR THE WEEK
READINGS FOR THE WEEK
GRATEFUL HEART ~ GIVING HEART
The word generosity comes from the Latin word “birth”. Generosity can carry the implication of bestowing some of one’s own riches on other people. When I’m generous, I’m giving away what rightfully belongs to me by birth (or however I got
it). What we need to do is move beyond generosity and arrive at stewardship – the realization that it all belongs to God, no matter how I got it, and I am administering it on God’s behalf.

RCIA—RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS
BECOMING CATHOLIC…WHAT IS THE GOAL OF THE RCIA?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is not primarily concerned with “getting people” through their sacraments, but rather about the entire process of initiation into the Catholic Christian community. Initiation is a journey in community. The catechetical sessions are important, but always subordinate to life within the Catholic Christian community. The candidates and catechumens will come to know God primarily by the way we parishioners live the gospel way of life (our example) and the care and concern we offer to them (relationships).
Initiation happens all the time because God is calling and people are responding all the time and at different paces. One way the community supports our candidates and catechumens is through public rituals. These rituals are transitional moments; catechumens cross over from one state to another in the conversion journey, and we ritually celebrate each of those traditions. In doing so, we live an important Catholic principle: we celebrate publicly our experience of conversion through our liturgical prayer.
Ultimately, RCIA is not about membership; rather, we are about discipleship and a lifelong commitment of sharing in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As Catholics, we do this within the context of our liturgical life, which reaches its climax at the celebration of the Mass at the Easter Vigil, where those who have been journeying into the faith fully participate in the life of the Church through the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and Eucharist. (cf. The RCIA: Transforming the Church, pp. 13-14)
Please continue to pray for our catechumens and candidates as they continue on their journey toward Easter
