2 Priest Message-Adoration Chapel news

F R . R I C K ’ S N O T E It’s a time full of newness. This is my first article for this bulletin, I myself am still pretty new, and most importantly, it’s the beginning of the new liturgical year, Happy Advent! As such, it makes sense to talk about beginnings and sources, roots and shoots like we hear about in Isaiah. At the very beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega, is God. He is the uncaused cause, the source of everything. Who Himself always has been, is, and will be. He made us in His image, like children bear the image of their parents. As His children, we can know and love Him, indeed, that’s what we’re made

for. But how do we come to know Him? Since creating us, and since our fall away from Him, He has nevertheless not stopped seeking us, preparing us to receive Him, preparing us for His coming that He may bring us back to Him. He did this over millennia as we see in scripture, revealing more and more, building up to the coming of the promised Messiah, who would be none other than God Himself. That’s a lot to fit into such a small season as Advent! Indeed, we celebrate these sacred mysteries all year and it’s still not enough. It takes a lifetime of

repetitions to soak in them and be formed by God, to let go of our willful self reliance and be stretched

to fit God’s original design for us. The way God does this is through the liturgy of the Church,

supported and led back to by the many devotions and prayers that naturally spring from this great source. A vital part of the liturgy is its’ calendar. Year by year the liturgical calendar comes around,

leading us through different parts of the mysteries God has revealed; day by day, we come to Mass to

meet God who comes to us. Advent especially focuses on God’s coming. The word advent comes from

the Latin, Ad venire, to come to. We left God by sinning, but God would not leave us left. He came to us, and He will come to us. Let us make ready to meet Him when He comes again!
