What is a Child Development Permit?
In California early educators (0-5) do not need Teaching Credentials. The
equivalent of Teaching Credentials for us is Child Development Permits
issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
Do you have to have Child Development
Permit to teach in an early education program? No. You only have to have a Child Development Permit if you teach in a
publically funded (Title 5/Department of Education) early education
program. If you teach in an independent (Title 22/private) program you
need 12 units of ECE.
The Matrix and Your Transcripts.
Look over the Matrix and figure out which permit you think you
qualify for.
Look at the required classes. Do you have all the required
classes? Questions?
You can get a copy of the Matrix on the ECE Homepage:
http://www.siskiyous.edu/cte/ece/
You can also get a copy of ECE@COS on the homepage.
That booklet matches COS classes to the courses on the Matrix.
Core Classes ECE 1002 Child Development or ECE 1999 Human Development
ECE 1003 Child Family and Community or ECE 2500 Family Relationships
ECE 1500 Introduction to Curriculum
General Education There are 4 General Education Categories required for the Child Development Permit: Math or Science/English or Language Arts/Social Sciences/Humanities or Fine Arts
Note: “Core Classes” and “General Education” classes required for the Permit are not the same as Core Classes and General Education classes required for the COS A.S.
Degree.
Alternate Requirements. Do they make sense? Back to Matrix
Look at the experience requirements. Do you have the required
experience? Back to Matrix Look at your Verification of Experience form.
A day equals THREE HOURS (in a row).
If you work more than three hours that DOES NOT count as more than one
day.
You can use Volunteer, Substitute, and fully employed hours in Center
Based or licensed Family Child Care Programs.
Keep track of your hours.
Decide which permit you qualify for. Back to Matrix

How to Renew your Permit Upgrades Payment SCOE Questions
JoAnn Eastlick, Manager 530-842-8408, [email protected]
Good Morning Patrice: Currently Siskiyou COE is closed to the public, consequently we are not doing LiveScans. I do not know where in
Siskiyou County a LiveScan can be done. Patrice’s Note: AS of 4/2 the Sherriff’s Dept is still doing LiveScans.
Applications are still being submitted via USPS. Applicants can drop their application in the "mail slot" at the front of the Main Office. We
are in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for limited hours. I suggest applicants call Joy (530-842-8407) ahead of dropping off
their application packets to allow her a chance to give them information necessary for a completed application. The CTC has lengthened
their internal timeline by 60 additional days to process applications, giving them 110 working days to process.
I hope you are healthy and safe. Jo

CDTC Questions
Send permit questions to Jennifer at [email protected]. Patrice,
Yes, permits should still be sent through US mail, the operations and processing for permits has not changed. Yes, official paper transcripts are still
required. There is no change to live scan requirements.
As an update, we have received word from the CTC that electronic/copied/scanned signatures will be accepted. This means the verification of
employment document can be emailed/scanned in order to complete an application, and the 41-4 document can have an electronic signature.
However, the transcripts, live scan and live scan reimbursement form still require original/official/inked documents. We have questioned CTC on the
use of etranscripts, but so far there has been no change to the CTC policy.
We will be updating our website and sending out more communication early next week; this week has been spent updating forms and information.
Please continue to check our website for updates, but you can also email me with questions at any time.
